Aliexpress.com Review - Anyone Here Riding the Aliexpress?

Hey all, looking for some help from the dropshippers out here. So, I heard that alibaba.com has started this new thing called aliexpress. A pal of mine, whoís pretty brave I guess (lol), tried it out, even though we all told him not to as we thought he was probably going to get scammed, etc. But things worked out pretty well for him! And heís thinking of using it again!

Iím not as brave as this guy is; so I thought Iíd ask around here first. Anyone here use Aliexpress? Is it another alibaba scam? Is it really safe or did my pal just a have a one-off, totally fluke successful transaction on Alibaba?

Sorry to butt in here but isnít alibaba.com kind of notorious for scamming people? I donít have any personal experience there but Iíve been pretty strongly scared off by all these stories of people handing over money and never getting their merch or getting low quality stuff. Maybe someone here can shed some more light on that?

Alibaba.com isnít scamming people. Itís just a site that was set up to link buyers with sellers, thatís all. The problems started when a lot of alibaba slots ended up being scammers and buyers were pretty much left to fend for themselves. So people who were noobs or didnít realize that they might be dealing with criminals were taken pretty easily. Now from alibaba.comís point of view, thatís not illegal or criminal but it definitely stinks.

I wouldnít recommend alibaba.com to anyone. I think itís slimy that a site builds its reputation on allowing people on board who are clearly criminals. If youíre looking for places to connect with suppliers, youíre better off checking out Manufacturers: Global Sources and Wholesale Suppliers & UK Wholesale Products Trade Directory - eSources.co.uk or Wholesale Deals UK - Wholesalers, Dropshippers, Importers & Distributors Database | Home |.

I donít want to give an alibaba review here but to be fair, I think alibaba.com was started with a good initiative in mind. Itís based in China and itís a B2B that deals with a lot of American money and clients. But as has been said, itís just a platform to connect. In the best situations, itís where small businesses can connect directly with Chinese suppliers but most of the deals are made off the site or through private messages.

And youíre right; a LOT of people got scammed. So many that itís become a pretty tough task trying to keep track of the different scams and fraudulent companies. And thatís basically where Aliexpress comes in. It was set up as a middle man kind of thing to help both the buyer and the seller. It wonít release payment until the buyer confirms that the product has been delivered. So ideally, the seller will get his legit payment if he makes a legit delivery. Both the buyer and seller benefit here.

This is all ideal of course. I donít know how well this will actually work out. Iíve been getting pretty mixed signals about it so far.

Have you used this? Or are you planning to and just collecting some ground information first?

I WAS thinking of using it but now, the feedback has just been so mixed up that I think Iíll wait a bit. There are people who claim to have asked for their refund and never got it. Others who had to kick up a fuss eventually got their money. And thereís those who had no problems at all and would back Aliexpress a hundred percent! So itís kinda hard to tell just now, itís early days yet for Aliexpress though.

I think this is a great initiative! I mean, these payments are processed through Escrow accounts, right? Or you can even use PayPal and freeze the payment if you donít get your merch, isnít that right?

Sure, itís a great IDEA. Just like alibaba.com was a great IDEA. But time will tell how well this will work and how easily they are scammed. Believe me; Aliexpress already has a bunch of red flags about it. For instance,

ē This doesnít protect the buyer from Ďreplacementsí. Thatís when you order something but what you get is similar to but not exactly what the seller advertised.
ē It does nothing to address the quality control problems people have with most of the stuff that comes off of alibaba.com
ē The fact remains that shipping times and quality are things that are going to mean different things to different people. Aliexpress doesnít provide any solutions to this either

But arenít these basically the same problems people had with alibaba.com before?

Yup the same basic problems havenít been dealt with because youíre still dealing with the same people! A scammer is a scammer and having an Escrow in place isnít going to change everything.
