How are Western Manufacturers affected by Asian Manufacturers Growth?

With Asia right now at the forefront, or so it seems, of manufacturing, how do you think it has changed manufacturing and wholesaling in the western world from 30 years ago?

Initial thoughts are about the effect on job opportunities as more and more western manufacturers switch to the cheaper Asian market. Hard to know how much is an inevitable consequence of globalism or how long it will last. Government subsidies in China cannot continue forever, can they?

An inevitable shift, eventually this type of inbalance from globalization will even out, and labor cost speculation will become less of a competitive advantage due to the evening out of global wages.

Ultimately innovation will thrive, and those businesses creating real value will prosper out of new ideas, and not out of exploiting the workforce.

For the sake of those in the U.S., some of the innovation needs to be here. Ideally, it will be spread out globally to help everyone's recession.

Personally, I think it has changed every aspect of the trade. With the advent of the internet, came the globalization of wholesaling and it just exploded.
