Better to contact suppliers by phone or email?

I wonder if people would like to be contacted by phone or email nowadays? If you're a supplier, someone leaves you a message on your website, do you call them or just reply back with a message? If you're a customer, would you like the sales department to call you or message you? I think it will depend on the situation, but I do wonder what works the best for business communication?

I personally love email. You never hear any accents, no fast talking, and there's a permanent record. You can really think about what you want to say in an email before saying something really dumb. Think about all the referencing you can do in an email... For me, it sure beats a phone call, mail, and telegraph combined.

As you can tell I can read better than I can hear...

I would say e-mail is far better unless you talk about specifics.

I believe lots of people won't be to happy to receive a call when they don't even expect it.

It has to be a phone call if I am negotiating something.

      Email

I am very shy and I don't like to talk on the phone, it comes out better in an email, and I don't get all stuttery, lol.

If you communicate via email then that is the way it should be replied as far as I'm concerned. As other members have said, many wouldn't like to receive a call from an unknown number rather than an email showing up with a subject line.

Personally, I love to talk over the phone as things will be conveyed much quicker and you get treated like a real person.

Email is great, if they are answered right away. You can get straight to the point, without all the unnecessary small talk. I would rather reply via email, I can clearly think about what I want to say, and edit it before I even send it.

I favor email as well, even though my job involves answering calls all day. I am shy when it comes to talking to new people, however, I can manage it matters call for it.

For example, two suppliers where I have wholesale accounts with gave me a call before activating them. I thought this was unnecessary and at the same time very considerate and means that they love my business and have time to talk to their customers.

You can also tell who speaks English and who doesn't by their accents.

I love email too and while my work does pay for my cell phone I would much rather take the time to type out an email on my phone that have to call international if its really not needed. I think most people prefer this as well, at least those I run into do.
