The Psychology of Color - Color Moods and Color Theory for Web Design

When it comes to designing a website, do you think choosing the right theme colors really matters? What are the best theme colors for a wholesale website? I notice many commercial websites use combination of blue-white or green-white.

Colors that are welcoming and easy on the eyes I believe would work best. It's just like advertising, you want to get their attention, but you don't want to scare them off either.

I actually studied a subject called Semiotics as a minor with my comp sci degree. There's a whole lot more to it-for instance, a site that is associated with the lesbian lifestyle should lean towards crisp, clean designs and go with mostly white-because white is a colour of purity. So depending upon the things that you are selling, you will want to use certain colours or avoid others. It's a very interesting area of study.

Psychologists have suggested that color impression can account for 60% of the acceptance or rejection of a product or service. Market researchers have also determined that color affects shopping habits:
Impulse shoppers respond best to red-orange, black and royal blue.
Shoppers who plan and stick to budgets respond best to pink, teal, light blue and navy.
Traditional people respond to pastel colors - pink, rose, sky blue.
