Buying domain names in the UK - Best Websites to buy Website Domains

I really like to design websites and was thinking about doing it as a hobby to make a little extra cash. Do you know if there are websites in the UK to buy domain names and if so, what they are called?

There are plenty of websites that sell domain names in the UK. Here are links to three of the top ones:
      Go Daddy
      UK Cheapest
      123-Reg

You can buy a domain name through these sites or opt for packages of three, six or more domain names depending on how many you want to buy. If you are working as a freelance web designer, you may want to buy a package of web domains so that you have plenty on hand.

Although these are all great sites, I would read what each website offers. There may be one that will meet your needs better than any other. Only you can tell by doing research, though.

You would actually be renting the domain name for two years, at the end of which you can renew your rental. If you sell a website with one of the domain names you bought, just transfer this information to your client. The client is then responsible for updating the rental of the domain. This rule of thumb applies to domains, the rental agreement is ten years.

Do you have any tips when buying a domain name, eg. how to pick a name?

There are things you can do to make sure you get the domain name you want.

      1. Brainstorm names and look for anything following those keywords on the domain selling websites.
      2. Look for domains that are easy to spell and not too long. The words should flow easily together and should not contain “my” or “the.”
      3. Make sure the domain will be easily located by people doing web searches on the particular items or services that domain is offering.

In regard to the second tip, you want to avoid common prefixes and suffixes for domain names. These will surely make your domain name, and thus the website, blend into the background. Find a simple domain name that is unique, but down to earth.

Don’t forget that you may be able to buy a domain name from its original owner. If you find one on the Internet that you want, contact the person listed as the owner or operator of the site. If you cannot find such a person listed, do a free who is search on the domain, which will give you that information.

Have a look at 123-reg, that is where I get my .co.uk domains from and I host them in the uk with HUK Hosting.

Having ccTLDs hosted in the right country will help with your search engine results.
