There are many options available. Do you need a fully managed and hosted website, or a do it yourself / host it yourself website?

The advantage of a hosted e-commerce website is that the site will be ready for you to start selling immediately.

Whereas a do it yourself website require more work on your part, but is generally more customizable (note however that most leading hosted ecommerce sites offer a very broad range of options, making them virtually as good as off the shelf solutions).

Design wise and feature wise you can't beat bigcommerce.com (design showcase at BigCommerce Live Stores | Customer Stores | Example Stores). Or you can obtain a free solution with an esources membership (list of features at esources - Wholesale Forum[/GOOGLEURL]) .

Apparently big commerce is not very good if you live in the UK a lot of people have had trouble taking payment, I do not want that problem.

Do you know who would be the best in the UK?

I just want to add my thoughts here.

I'm very computer literate. I am a graphic designer and once was a web designer- then everything changed. So I decided to use a web builder. I've been thru a few in the last month.

First I tried Volusion and was perfectly content with it until I read, on this thread, that bigcommerce is the best option. I became distracted and moved over to bigcommerce. I was about to pay for the account when I remember using wix.com for a small site a year ago.

I spent all of the past few nights creating a site with wix.com. I paid for the account and re-directed my domain from bigcommerce to wix and had everything set up. ... I thought.

Here's my mini review:

Volusion's templates aren't that great and offer little editing options. This is a major all back for someone like me.
Bigcommerce has amazing customer service, and if you want to 'tweak' something on your store site than they have it- they have everything. But, sometimes a lot of something is simply too much. Still, no big deal. My main issue with bigcommerce is that editing, in a visual aspect, is very limited.
My HUGE issue with Wix is that there's no option to change product variables, such as size and color. All in all, this is really my only big issue with wix.. as the visual editing process is fairly free! I can do anything.

Have a look: (aka, deModa presented by inJanuary :: Clothing, Accessories and more!). I'd share the volusion site link but they just shut me down after my trial ran dry so I don't even want to bother trying with them again. --- Please note, neither of these sites are/were completed.

So here I stand saying, I'm still unhappy but, bigcommerce is very technical and thorough. Wix is aesthetically pleasing and SUPER EASY to use.

Magento seems kinda pricey at nearly 13, 000 USD per year.

I still haven't found an eCommerce solution that I'm thrilled with. I went ahead and semi-blindly paid for godaddy's cart and I am very unhappy with it. I certainly wont be renewing the service when my month is due.

Has anyone tried Shopify?
