Wholesale or drop shipping? - eBay, eCommerce, Products and Suppliers

Sorry if this will get a little long and I feel such an idiot posting this on here, but I think its the best place for help so here goes..!

Anyway, I am hoping to start up some kind of online business that selling things. I have been looking at Dropshippers and buying from wholesalers but am quite baffled!

I either want to sell on eBay or start up my own eCommerce website and was wondering, how could I come about doing this? What are some good ways to get a good eCommerce site out there or how can I effectively sell on eBay?

Next is the products! What would be best for what? Wholesale or dropshippers? And can anyone reccommend me any legit, good sites please?

Finally a question about drop shipping. I was looking at WorldWideBrands and i mean, there are so much choice so i was wondering, say I wanted to sell a laptop. would I sell the laptop on my site or eBay, and then after someone purchases it would I contact the dropshipper then and pay them or would I have to contact them before I started selling their product?

And just what do you think will work better and why, and can I have some advice and tips please?

P.S. I know I am a newbie at this sort of stuff, but I am trying to learn the basics so need to ask really!

      Hi Andy1254

      Welcome to Wholesale Forum

You came to the right place with your questions.

Selling on eBay is a great way to start getting some on line selling experience, many sellers started out on eBay and decided to invest in their own eCommerce website at a later stage. eBay can help you build up some capital to reinvest in your business. If you want to start selling from your own website immediately then you could use GoDaddy to get yourself a domain name and choose for a template website from BIGcommerce for example. In this way you could use your eBay selling account to direct traffic to your new website.

Please have a look at the following discussions on Wholesale Forum for more information for starting sellers online:

When it comes to sourcing products, you first need to decide which products you are interested in selling. We always recommend selling something you personally know something about. In this way you are able to highlight all the positive aspects of this product, write accurate product descriptions and provide quality pictures. To find out which products are currently selling best and how you can sell those products to make the highest profits, you can use a market research tool like Terapeak.

When you decide on which product you want to sell you can start looking for suppliers. Finding suppliers on line is not an easy task, you need to verify every supplier you find thoroughly, because there are many scammers out there trying to sell you fake products, or no products at all. Make sure that you verify any supplier that you are interested in working with. You can ask for a company review of any business right here on Wholesale Forum by posting a new request in our Wholesale & Drop shipping Reviews - Wholesale Forum.

The difference between a wholesale suppliers and a drop ship supplier is as following:

A Wholesale Supplier sells goods in bulk to retailers / resellers. The wholesaler needs to sell in bulk in order to make a profit. When you use a wholesale suppliers, you will need storage space to hold stock and ship to your customers when you make a sale

A Drop / Blind Ship supplier make it possible for you to list its products online for sale. When you make a sale you forward your order to the drop / blind shipper and they will ship the order to your customer on your behalf. You will not have to handle any physical stock, nor invest large amounts of money in buying and storing stock.

Using a drop / blind ship supplier can be a great way to start selling on line without having to invest a large amount of money. You can think about reinvesting your profits in buying stock at a later stage, holding you own stock will make for larger profit margins.

Besides Worldwide Brands you can also use eSources to source verified suppliers from all over the globe. eSources and worldwide Brands are the largest verified trade directories on the web and list wholesale suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and drop shippers. eSources also offers a free and fully functional eCommerce website with free hosting so that you can start selling immediately.
