      Tips for successful online trading - Help growing my business

      Hi, i've just got started with my own sales webpage, but business is going a bit slow and I'm not getting enough online purchases. I'd like some advice to help growing my business. Are there any tips for successful online trading? Thanks.

      First of all you must take into account that having an online business, although it may seem simple at first sight, requires as much work and dedication as having an actual store. It's not just a matter of building a site, putting all your stuff on it and wait for people to just click in and buy. There's a lot of things you need to do.

      You must always keep the site up to date.

      Running an online business requires self-discipline, organization and dedication.

      You need to be creative, make your website appealing and easy to use. Just like in a real store, you have to make the customer feel comfortable and have a good experience while shopping, that way customers will spend more time on your virtual shop and will come back more often.

      Don't be afraid to take risks, even if they are small, in order to put your web-store "out there", such as introducing new products from time to time or investing in a new idea, service or project. Remember, someone who doesn't take risks might not lose but will also never gain more. Challenge yourself, you'll be surprised how far you can get. But be careful, you don't want to challenge yourself beyond your capacities, be real and objective about your goals.

      If you happen to have an idea which you think will be good for your business, be sure to take all the necessary steps to follow through with it till the very end. It is vital that your ideas are not just caught up in your thoughts, you must actually make them come true in order to be successful. And, like I said before, don't be afraid to act.

      Like with any business, there will be times when you will be in a tight spot when your business may have a crisis, so you must be aware that in business, there are always ups and downs which you will have to face. Therefore, be sure to keep your chin up. Stay positive, be tough and affront the problems that may come in the best way you can. Ask for help, if necessary.

      Build up enough traffic on your website and keep the traffic flowing. Advertise! But don't get stuck on just online advertising, post your ads in newspapers, magazines, flyers, etc. Make sure you advertise on the proper places that will target your profile customers, like for example, if you're targeting only young females between 16 and 25 who like high-end fashion, and your website sells high-end trendy outfits, then you must advertise in fashion magazines where these girls will stumble upon your ad.

      If you're not Internet savvy, it would be advisable to hire someone to do your website layout for you or there are plenty of sites that offer this service, they give you all the tools, such as templates, easy to use online tools and even technical support. Remember don't be scared to invest, this is part of your business risks.

      Always offer good quality products. Customers are bound to shop on your website if your products are good.

      Your website must have a newsletter or mailing list, so you always keep your customers updated on your site content, like special offers, seasonal products, etc. Be sure to add a catchy signature line at the end of your newsletters or emails.

      Make special offers regularly, you can make a monthly offer or a seasonal offer or holiday offer, etc. For example, 30% discount for all purchases above $80 USD, as a special offer for the 4th of July.

      Be passionate about your business and what you do. If you are not, then you're barking up the wrong tree and need to seriously rethink if this is what you want to do or if these are the kind of products you want to sell. Find your motivation and stay focused.

      Last of all, be patient. Results don't just appear magically after working hard for a week or even a month or a year. It takes time for businesses to grow and you must not lose your faith. Business should be at least steady or growing very slowly, but if you feel that it's loosing a lot of money and that it is going terribly, you could seek advice or technical support from an expert.

      I have an online business and it took me years of struggle to get it right. Nowadays there's lots of information out there, ways to get it done more simply and lots of experts on the subject. But it's been a real joy to bring up this business which is my pride and something I really love working on everyday. I've definitely learnt a lot from it and the hardships have only made me stronger and more confident at tackling them.
