      Tips for a Newbie!

      Does anyone have any tips with regards to gaining wholesale contacts? I realise that the best option is to phone everyone who supplies anything to do with your business as not every trader you contact will want to deal with you, but what are the things that i should be saying to them to sell my business?

      I'm new to the whole business thing in general (not just online business' like i am trying to start) so any tips that you have for me in getting products into my store would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking at creating a 'party supplies' related site.

      The best way by far is to:

      1. Send them a letter specifying your intentions and business details;

      2. Follow up the letter with a phone call, and;

      3. Arrange to meet the supplier in person.

      A long process, but it would go to show that you are very serious and organized about your business. You can obtain several benefits by dealing in person, including for example getting direct tips on the latest trends, inspecting products in person, nurturing a relationship with your account manager, and so on.

      Of course, trade shows are a good shortcut, because they allow you to present yourself as a business (bring plenty of business cards with you), deal face to face, and inspect products in person. All in one place, for hundreds of relevant suppliers.
