Hi Sarah,
Welcome to Wholesale Forum
First you need to register as a business in the UK. You can register as either a sole trader or limited company. You will also be required to register for VAT if you expect your turnover to go over the threshold of £73,000. However, since you are just starting up we suggest registering for VAT at a later stage. To learn more about registering your business in the UK, you should read the following threads to find information and useful links:- How to register as a trader in the UK - Sole trader or Ltd company - Wholesale Forum

Have a look at the following EU suppliers of designer clothes, household furniture & nursery items:
Designer ClothesHousehold FurnitureNursery ItemsTo find many more verified trade suppliers of designer clothes, furniture and nursery products from the UK and the rest of the EU, we recommend using the two largest UK online trade directories of verified wholesale suppliers eSources and Wholesale Deals. Both list thousands of verified wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers and drop shippers.

Well, before you start with thinking about going online for your own web site, it is actually really helpful when you have the right people already. You should have already established your client list that you will make use of when you already go live. It will also be very beneficial to have contacted suppliers already as you would not want to go live without the right stocks on hand that may cause further delays when you already ship items out.

WholeSaleMod pretty much beat me to it.
When starting a business, please make sure you know what it is that you are offering and make sure that you have a unique selling proposition. Then make sure that you factor your costs (time and money) into all your workings.

Hi,
The most important thing is to decide first what are you going to sell. It is not good idea to sell so many different things (designer clothes, household furniture, nursery items etc). It is better to focus on one group of products especially if you are new. Be careful with suppliers and check products prices first and compare them to other sources. There are many "suppliers or wholesalers" that are not real wholesalers.
