Selling refurbished phones - Is it legal?

I have a query. Can I freely sell refurbished phones online? I'm asking because I'm considering making a business out of it and selling them over the internet.

Don't worry, it is perfectly legal, as long as you acknowledge that the phones are refurbished and do not advertise them as "new". It is important that the customer is fully aware of this and is not mislead in any way. Make sure that the customer understands what the term "refurbished" means and implies.

If you are planning on selling refurbished phones, I recommend you get those that have been reconditioned by the factory. This will ensure that you are offering a good quality product, which often comes with a 1 year factory warranty. Be sure to describe these products as "Factory refurbished phones"

If, on the other hand, you are selling phones that are refurbished by a company, other than the factory, then make sure that you also describe your products accordingly as "Standard refurbished or seller refurbished phones". The downside of selling this type of phones is that the warranty will be considerably shorter or may not exist at all, and the phone might be prone to some malfunctioning as these phones regularly just undergo repairs on the housing but not on the electric or electronic parts. In this case, carefully choose a company with a good reputation and one that willingly answer any query, if and when they arise.

Tradeshows are often the best place to get to know suppliers. You could also resort to a local cell phone vendor and ask him what company he uses to repair cell phones. Make your search cautiously and try to stay away from online suppliers, as the majority have been known to be scammers.

Here are some helpful tips on selling refurbished phones:

      1. Focus on brands and models that have a higher demand or are the most popular.
      2. When buying your stock, make sure that all phones are working and that the price enables you to resell and get a good profit.
      3. Lastly, don't forget to advertise. Marketing is key.

Other sources for refurbished phones can be found on Craigslist or at recycling companies.

It would also be a good idea for you to check to which telecommunications company the refurbished phones belong to. You should try to get phones that work with the most used cell phone companies.
