Many garments are produced and shipped from China. The key issues, of course, are price, quality and delivery. As you can decide the term of price and delivery, the most difficult is to control quality, especially before shipment or before you make the payment to your supplier.

Good quality dress wear for both ladies and gents can be readily purchased at good prices in small quantities direct from the manufacturer in China, but I suggest you consider Spain, Portugal, and Turkey. Eastern European countries are also now competitive with China in many areas, including clothing.

One of the biggest problems when importing/exporting goods or like you want clothes and other staff, is that people think the only way is China! That's not correct. It might be the cheapest, but has got many disadvantages in terms of quality, lack of communication, sample testing, customs and so on. Many problems. It is not impossible to get goods from where ever you want but you need to be careful in terms of cost, freight, forwarders, and many other expenses! My recommendation is to look around you and find people easily and locally! Turkey rather seems way better, because there is a free trade agreement between EU and Turkey! meaning that there are some goods that are ZERO-Rated. No hassle in terms of VAT or other regulations. but check the tariff code and see yourself! HMRC is a good start HM Revenue & Customs: Home Page, look at GOV.uk and trade & investemnet from those places you can get in touch with people and find suppliers and manufacturers!

Other EU countries might be a better option. The closer the better!

If you want some contacts from Turkey, let me know.
      Cheers

      Hi,

We are looking for clothing wholesalers, and Turkey sounds really interesting! Can you possibly let us know some details that we can follow up?

Well, there are many companies I can provide, however, if you are really into it, I'd say go and see yourself, I don't know what exactly you want. So, let me know what you want. We can start from there and see if I could help.

In February I am going to meet some manufacturers, if you also around I can take arrange a meeting and help.

In my opinion Turkey is a great source for clothing, textile and many other things.

Most people seem to think the only way to find suppliers is to go to one of the big B2B sourcing sites, but the problem is they list masses of suppliers falsely claiming to be manufacturers. In addition to that the vast majority of the suppliers listed are located in China, so if you want to look elsewhere you must use other methods.

Regarding China being the lowest price source, that is becoming less and less the case. I have recently purchased retail for personal use, some items manufactured in European countries and the prices were equal to or even lower than what you would pay for equivalent items made in China.

For those with no knowledge of economic history, let me just say how manufacturing has changed since World War 2. First, Japan was the low cost source, then after their living standards rose, low cost manufacturing shifted to South Korea. Then it moved on to Taiwan, then to mainland China. Now low cost manufacturing is taking place in low labour cost countries in other parts of Asia, South America, Eastern Europe, and even in some struggling EU countries.

I recommend avoiding the tunnel vision that sees only China as a low cost source, although there are still many opportunities for high profits if you source carefully in that country.
