      Hi Maurice,

If you are looking for high profit margins you need to go direct to manufacturers.

There are many traps for the unwary not only in sourcing products, but also in the ordering and importing processes. I see too many people jumping in the deep end quite unprepared. Everyone seems to think only of China when looking for low cost items, but there are many other places to look. In some product categories China is losing its competitive edge. One supplier in China that I have dealt with for nearly 22 years is complaining about government regulations adding substantially to their cost of operating.

This is one reason why Chinese and Taiwanese companies are setting up manufacturing facilities in other lower cost Asian countries. Having said that, I know that some items can be bought at good prices, with good QC outside of Asia.

      Hi experience,

You say that we should go to manufacturers for high profit margins, but the ones I have contacted don't even answer my emails. Is it because I'm too small?

Anyway, I don't have the cash to order big, so where else should I look?

If you are not getting a reply, it is not because you are too small.

There are certain things that you should know when first contacting manufacturers.

      1. Use a business name, not your personal name.
      2. Don't tell them that you are new.
      3. Don't ask what is their MOQ.
      4. Don't tell them your business plan.
      5. Don't tell them the quantity you want to buy.

You don't need to order big. I teach how to get manufacturers to supply small quantities even if the quote big MOQs. Those big quantities are there to deter small fry and newbies.

If you are looking on most of the popular sourcing sites you will have found suppliers pretending to be manufacturers, but they are traders. Such people are inflexible in relation to MOQs.

      Hi Powerguy,

      You asked:

      "Hi experience,

Do you know how to order directly from the manufacturer a luxury brand goods such as Diesel jeans, Fendi sunglasses, etc.? Of course, they are not based in China"

The only safe way is to contact the manufacturers at their head office and ask for the contact details of their distributors.

Don't attempt to buy them from any sources other than authorized distributors. I know how to find suppliers in China, but buying from them can only lead to serious trouble. The shipments will be confiscated by customs, financial penalties may be imposed, and in extreme cases prosecution can lead to imprisonment. I know of some case in which importers have been sued by the brand owners and bankrupted.
