Hi, I do not know if this will help you, or is quite what you are looking for, but wordpress is easy to use and I have found a good way to start. Other ideas are OScommerce, Zen Cart or Joomla. (All these are open source products).

      Hope it helps. MrsP

      Hi Incun,

      Welcome to Wholesale Forum

What types of products are you looking for? We can help you find some reliable suppliers to deal with

There are many open source solutions to create an eCommerce website. Depending on the amount of capital you want to invest, you could also choose to have a custom website created. You could have a look at Elance.com to source professional designers to help you create your website.

Have a look at the following threads to learn more about creating your own website:You should also consider using esources ecommerce solution. Have a look at the following link to find all the features offered: eSources eCommerce solution features - Wholesale Forum

      Hope this helps

We use BIg Commerce for our stores and have been really happy with them.

What do you plan on selling?

      open source carts

Depends on budget for your web/ecommerce site. A few points below hopfully the will be useful.

There are also a few other open source carts you can look at: opencart, pretashop and zencart.

Check out some of the main hosting companies as they usually have a "1 click instal" hosting accounts which can get you set up very quickly and no programming needed.

Most open source software have there own site/forums which you can get loads of information from, there you can also analyse/compare the built in functions, 3rd party modules, Plug-ins and templates.

Once you have done this you should be able to make a sound calculated decision on the best cart to suit your needs.

      Hope this helps.

I suggest you get a hosting account with places like bluehost/hostgator where they offer simplescripts or quickinstall. Simplescripts or quickinstall offers you a one-click install feature for most of the e-commerce. You should be able to do it all yourself without any technical knowledge. While it helps to hire a professional to do the job for you, you might not be able to afford their services when you are starting out. Just my 2 cents

Here is a list of e-commerce options available for set up on your website on Bluehost:
      Shopsite
      Prestashop
      Avactis
      Magento
      Cubecart
      OScommerce
      Zencart
      Agoracart
      Opencart
      Tomatacart

How you approach this will depend on whether you are planning to do the site yourself or outsource the work.

I would say that Wordpress is the best platform for newbies however you may need to move over to more dedicated technologies if the eCommerce store is going to be quite extensive. You can quite easily set up a ecommerce site yourself using Wordpress.

If you want to outsource the work (get someone else to do it for you), then use eLance and Odesk. But you must be very clear and precise with your job description. Go into as much detail as possible as this will save you a lot of headaches further down the line.

I have a lot of web based businesses and am more than happy to help by offering feedback and advice, so don't be afraid to ask.

      Hope that helps!
