      Becoming a Web Host Reseller

I have started reading up on web host reselling, where a person uses his or her hard drive space and bandwidth to host websites on behalf of other people or companies. Has this market been tapped yet?

The web host reselling industry is one of the most popular businesses on the Internet. After all, it is a relatively straightforward way to make a profit if you know how to work the market properly. However, there is so much competition for web host reselling today that it is difficult to start in the business and be successful.

One of the most difficult parts about moving forward in this industry is that you have to find and maintain clients. You probably won’t be able to compete with the reliability of larger web host resellers unless you offer very low prices. If you offer the lowest prices, though, you won’t be bringing in much of a profit.

If you have little or no experience with web hosting or managing clients on a server, being a web host reseller is definitely not something you should attempt. You have to have comprehensive knowledge of server systems, programming, etc. in order to offer reliable service to your customers.

I know some minor web host resellers who do make a decent profit. There must be some rules they are following that help them make money and keep their profits up.

Two main skill sets that you need to succeed in this business are computer programming and general IT skills, and a firm business background. Here are some other less vital but still important things that make this type of business successful:

      ● If you have a current client database, use it to your advantage. Inquire if any of your clients need or want a website.
      ● Do not rule out catering to local brick and mortar businesses in your area. Research which ones do not have a website and offer your services to those businesses.
      ● If you have a strong business background but don’t have much in the way of technological proficiency, you can apply for a reselling account with a webhosting business. The webhoster will take care of maintaining the server if you do not feel comfortable doing so. The disadvantage to this option is that you will most likely have to share a server with other resellers.

I was not familiar with webhosting services until you mentioned it. Do you know of any reliable ones that I could use?
