There are German laws restricting the import of perfumes into Germany. Here is a recap of the regulations –
- Small amounts of products brought in for testers/samples have just the standard customs regulations
- Empty perfume bottles or vials must comply with EU standards and European Conformity (CE) marketing regulations. Always provide the appropriate documentation on any commercial products.
- For large shipments you have to contact the German embassy to obtain the proper documentation. There is so much work involved that most sellers simply avoid shipping perfumes to Germany.
- The documentation includes shipping company name, location, date of issue, quantity of product, and number of boxes, invoice, delivery terms, and a detailed description of the product.
- You also have to prove that the product meets CE marketing regulations. With this certification the product is deemed to comply with all health and safety requirements dictated by the European Union.
- Labels on the perfume must list the ingredients, quantity in metric units, and name of the product. Also note the labels must be in German. Needless to say many sellers do not wish to go to the extent of special packaging and labelling.Want To Be An eBay Powerseller? This is the Service You Need.

If you are using eBay I believe they have a strict policy of not selling perfumes to Germany. This stemmed from a lawsuit of a major perfume maker against eBay back in 2007. If you want to take an extra step, you can get a private courier in Europe to do all the extra work for you to get the perfume into Germany – but that will cost extra obviously.

Just avoid shipping to Germany and clearly state on your eBay postings that you do not ship perfumes to Germany. If you post perfumes on eBay and do not state that you do not ship to Germany your post could be pulled.

It’s possible that if the perfume manufacturer you buy from has shipped to Germany before then he might already have the appropriate packaging and can work with you to ship the perfume to Germany. Check with your dropshipper or manufacturer and maybe they will work with you.
