How can I verify a shipping company is genuine or not? I mean is there any id for shipping companies?

First you should check whether it is a registered company, by verifying through their country's business registry, and also see if the company is still listed as active.

Most countries also have organizations and authorities that control shipping companies. In the US, for example, you can verify a shipping company by asking them if they are licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission http://www.fmc.gov/ as a Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) or freight forwarder. If they say yes, ask for their license number and check it by going to the following:

You want someone who religiously maintains the required bonding, financial and other miscellaneous record keeping. Also, see if they are registered members with the following:

• Global Project Logistics Network
