Shipping large items within the UK - got any recommendations?

My first post on these forums and I hope someone can shed some light on this frustrating topic.

I've been searching online for a while now for a courier company that can handle the shipment of large items throughout Great Britain (nothing overseas).

The items would be mattresses and beds initially. I'm putting my bricks and mortar store online.

The prices seems incredibly high. 100 pounds for a double mattress for a 200 mile drop. Is that reasonable? To compete with the market I'd have to virtually half that cost. This is really going to limit my catchment area if I can only deliver to the neighbouring counties.

I'm not too concerned about next day delivery at the moment and figure a weeks lead time would be ok.

Does anyone on here have experience of a reasonably priced company for this type of item?

      Hi Jeff,

      Welcome to Wholesale Forum

Are your mattresses air vacuumed before they are shipped? Also have you already approached Parcel Force?

You could start from a service like Parcel2Go | Courier Services | Express Parcel Delivery Company

      Also consider palletized distribution.

Please let us know how you get on, we can research further if you can provide more details on your findings and circumstances.

Thanks for the very quick reply.

I hadn't thought of parcel2go, I don't know why not as I've used them personally in the past for small items. I'll certainly look into that one, Parcel Force.don't ship items this large though.

Most of our sales come from sprung mattresses so they won't be vacuum packed. I suppose they'll weigh around 70 pounds and would measure 6'2" by 6' by 1'. Packing would only be a thick plastic sheet so the measurements are basically the size of the product.

      I'm off to look a parcels2go.
