Confused on shipping charges USA into Canada - Cross border shipping with FedEx

Ok. I ordered on May 6 product. They charged shipping and handling. The norm. But they are using FEDex to the Canadian border, then using Canada post to ship to me..I have to pay this. Why did they charge me full shipping and handling? I have emailed them. No response back yet.

      Hi B.C.C.C

      Sorry for the late reply.

Strange situation, it seems that FedEx does cross-border shipping. Could you tell us from which country you have ordered so that we can investigate further.

      Hi B.C.C.C,

Because of the North America Free Trade Agreement it is possible for FedEx to offer cross-border shipping, which means that they are able to deliver your goods to Canada seamlessly. You supplier could have easily chosen this cross-border option.

If you are looking to order from this supplier in the future, our advice would be to inform your supplier about cross-border shipping and try to convince him to use this method for future shipments. You can also try to bargain for an arrangement to split the costs, as the supplier has failed to recognize the shipping possibilities of the company he is using.

You could also contact the supplier and see if the shipment from the Canadian border to your location might be canceled and you could pick up the goods yourself. This of course depends on your distance from the border and the costs involved in getting there and back, but this might cut down the costs associated with any further delays.

      Hope this helps

      Thank you!
I just received an email from them stating they were using FedEx international up to the Canadian border then switched to Postal. I am assuming because it is cheaper for them, more expensive for me, maybe because they are pocketing the extra money. I know this was happening with Ebay, they were selling a high price ticket item for bargain basement and tacking on a high shipping charge. They have informed me that from now on they will only use USPS with my shipments, which will take me longer now as I have a customs broker. When they use postal, it ALWAYS gets stuck at the border with customs and gets locked up for weeks, sometimes taking up to four weeks for a shipment to come in. With using FedEx or UPS the custom agent can easily pass it through and I get my shipments in a week and a half.

      Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and thanks for any suggestions/advices in advance.

I am a Canadian resident, and if I do some cross-border shipping down in the U.S. ( from British Columbia to Washington border), will I be able to ship all the US purchase directly to China assuming I have a registered US address.

If I was able to directly ship the purchase from US to China, I am assuming that I will NOT have to pay for the Canada duty/tax as I would have to if I bring the purchase back to Canada then ship to China.

If my parcel got returned I am assuming it will be returned to my registered US address?

This will depend on the return address you provide to your customer. Yes it can be done, it's not illegal

      Thanks for the reply.

What's the cheapest way to ship stuff from US/Canada to China/Hong Kong.

My shipment varies from 20-40 kg per parcel and probably will fit in any standard packaging box (i.e. won't be oversize) .

I don't need any express shipping (i.e. if it takes long time > 2 weeks, it will be ok for me)

I checked the cost with UPS, Fedex and AAE, they all seem expensive.

I just checked Canada Post, it is cheapest among all other postal service.

Because Canada Post can ship parcel with surface/ground, the other ones are mostly shipped by air.

      Thanks very much.
