Are the search engines of any use here? Seems to me that you can check out a company's rep that way too, right?

You sure can. Chinese scammers will not put up any genuine information online because it's really easy to get tracked by the authorities that way. So if the wholesaler you're buying stock from is legit, you'll be able to find their contact info and registration number online. If you can't, there's probably something wrong.

09 Jul 2010 01:26 AM #13I also wanted to add that apart from the BIC number, any wholesaler in China who wants to import or export needs to get a certification called the Certificate of Import & Export from the Ministry.
They may also have to register with the Bureau of Inspection & Quarantine (depends on their product) and the Chinese Customs House. If they don't, they do not have the legal right to do business with you.
Apart from the suppliers, you should probably check a few things with the product before buying stock.
Don't pay for anything until you've checked the product and only make payments to a corporate account. It's much easier to trace things if something goes wrong.

For the newbies out there, I know it looks like buying stock from China is more trouble than its worth. For me, it's been totally worth it. There are great products and suppliers out there and you can definitely make good money selling these items. But it certainly helps to know about these scams and how to avoid them beforehand.

Trial and error my friend. You can apply all the tips and tricks of the trade you get, but there is no substitute for experience.

Great, however the objective of Wholesale Forum is to share experiences to help others avoid the same problems.
It's inevitable that those wholesale forum members who will learn from reading other members experiences will in turn share their knowledge in the future.WholesaleForum

I just wanted to say, that I am one of those newbies and I am currently reading all this information with interest. I have yet to do my first bulk purchase, but when I do I will use this information to hopefully allow me to make an informed descision.
Once I have gained experience in this market I will pass my experiences to other users so that they can avoid the inevitable obstacles which I will come accross.
Does anyone know a good third party company to verify the suppliers for China?
