Spotting fake skate shoes / skateboarding footwear

I am trying to sell shoes popular with skaters and do not want to buy fakes.

Right now I am looking at Supra shoes but Im interested in Vans, too.

What are some good tips on spotting fake shoes? Should I be watching out for any particular shoe wholesaler?

Fake shoes are a problem for every demographic ranging from high end fashion brands to skate shoes including Vans, Supra and Nike.

The best defense against counterfeit or knock off shoes is to learn the brand. Researching the shoe will help you know the ins and outs so you can pick a real Supra out of the lineup.

Telling the difference between a real Supra and fake Supra:

      Logo
o Look on the bottom of the Supra shoe and you will see a logo. On fake Supras this logo is much smaller and often shown with a box around it

      The box
o Fake Supra shoes come in cheap cardboard boxes
o The graphics on the box are wrong (compare with actual box on the Supra site or in a Supra store)
o Bar code is missing from the fake box

      Stitching
o Real shoes, no matter if they are Supra or otherwise have good stitching
o Look for uniformity in the stitches
o If the shoe is missing stitches or uses a different color thread this could be a red flag

Other things you might want to look for with fake Supras are the metal eyelets for the laces (fakes do not have this feature) and the insole is cheaper and less padding in the knock off version.

The difference between real Vans and fake Vans:

      Flexibility of shoe
o Real Vans offer flexibility especially near the toe of the shoe
o Fake Vans will be very stiff

      Stitching
o Again look at stitching. Real Vans use symmetrical stitches

      Vans logo
o On the back of the shoe you should see the Vans symbol
o Knock off Vans do not include the symbol on the back

When you do research about the different brands pay attention to designs and price. The more you know about how the shoe should look the easier it will be to spot a fake.

Always pay attention to colors, as some knock off skater shoes come in colors that are not available from a reputable dealer.

You are not the only one who is tired of dealing with fake Supra shoes on the market. Supra has a place on their website where they list websites who are selling knock off versions.

Check out this link before you make a deal on a Supra skater shoe - Supra | Counterfeit Education

I’m not sure if Vans offers a listing of sites to avoid, but you can always contact them and see.

Robin_texas is right about finding knock offs, you have to know what the real brand looks like first.

Don’t focus on the price. Cheap prices are how bad sellers rope people into buying fake skater shoes. I would do research about the shoe and notice the little things such as –

      • Size range
      • Color availability
      • Design names
      • Packaging

Before you make a purchase from a shoe supplier make sure you match up the shoe and packaging with an actual Supra/Van or other skater shoe to compare.

I love that Supra is fighting back and showing which sites not to deal with!

Appreciate the tips and the links. I did not notice the metal eyelets on the pair of Supra shoes before but now I see one of the suppliers I was looking at clearly does not offer them.

You have to pay attention to the little details on the shoes because that is what counterfeit sellers don’t want to take the time/or spend the money to match.

Fake Supra shoes do not come with keychains. When you buy real Supra skating shoes you get three keychains. There is a Supra square logo tag, Supra foam tag and a premium leather tag.

Seeing the shoe in person really helps. The way a skater shoe feels is very distinctive. Robin_texas mentioned the fake Vans shoe being stiff and he is right.

A distributor sent me a sample of Vans once and I could barely bend them. The fabric did not feel the same either. I wear Vans daily so I could tell right away something was off.

Spotting fake shoes can be done just by looking at the stitching. Knock off dealers may get the Nike swoosh right (very hard to do this) but they always skip a stitch.

If you cannot see the stitching in the pictures provided ask for more detailed photos. Also ask for a sample of the skater shoe before you commit to ordering a bulk amount.

How can I ask for a sample of a shoe? Would getting a sample be the only way I can view the packaging?
