Fraud is everywhere.
Make sure the supplier can give you plenty of service – this means both before and after the transaction.
Since it is your first time dealing with the supplier don’t make too large of an order. Start small and see if you can build trust.
Definitely have a third party check things out. A lot of times if you don’t speak Chinese then you can get taken easier. I always get a company to go in and verify my suppliers. Saves time and money in the big picture.

05 Jan 2011 08:07 AM #13Yes fraud has the potential of being anywhere and that’s why it is important to do research.
Is the supplier selling for well under the going wholesale prices? If so, why?
Are the items new? Refurbished? Used? Branded? Unbranded?
All these questions need to be answered before going through with an order. If they can’t be then you are taking a major risk.

Newbies get scammed because they fall for those directory lists of Chinese suppliers. Ask your fellow traders about the specific supplier you want to use.
I always check references in person if possible and talk to other sellers about who they use as a supplier and why.

The price is always a give away to me. If a Chinese supplier is selling something for 10 pounds that sells for 100 pounds then I know that I should not touch it.

05 Jan 2011 08:44 AM #16Another way to tell if a Chinese supplier is on the up and up is by their merchandise.
China suppliers dont have genuine branded merchandise. They might claim to sell Apple iPad but you are getting a replica.

Yeah I did a review search for one of the suppliers in China I found on the list and thats how I learned they were a scam front.
After discovering that I thought it would be a good idea to learn more ways to see which suppliers can be trusted with getting me the product I want and not running away with my money.
Do any Chinese suppliers have branded goods?

See if you can split up the payments. If the supplier is reputable then they wont mind you paying for the rest of the order once you receive the items or at least, after youve done a quality inspection.

05 Jan 2011 08:48 AM #19You would be hard pressed to find a Chinese supplier that has branded goods. If they did then they would need to be an authorized distributor.
If you think the supplier is selling fakes you could slyly ask if the replicas would pass as the authentic product. This way, the China supplier knows you know they are not real.
