Difference between real and fake Kingston flash drives

Hey everyone. I found a good deal on some Kingston flash drives- more specifically on their D200 and D310 models.

Anyone know how to tell the difference between a fake and real Kingston flash drive? I dont want to sell anything fake. The supplier appears reputable, but you never know.

Thanks in advance for the advice. Just trying to protect both myself and my customers.

Unfortunately, there is a huge market for fake Kingston flash drives, especially their 128GB model. If the price is well below $300 I would say you are getting a fake.

Visit the Kingston website or store and see how much they are going for. Fakes can be sold for as much as $10 a stick. Imagine your profit if you can turn that around and sell it for $75 or $150.

If you want to buy one stick and test it out I would recommend running it through the H2testw 1.4 program. You need the actual data stick for this test.

You can also look at the appearance –

      • The 32GB has a blue end
      • The 64 GB has a yellow end
      • The 128GB is solid black

The above colors are for the DT200 models. Some fakes will appear close to the original color. Their memory has been digitally altered to read as a 128GB (or whatever model you purchased) so, be careful there. That’s why the H2testw program works, because it is not fooled by the fake.

Even if you just have a hint, that it’s fake, stay away. You don’t want to ruin your feedback and get banned from selling.

I definitely don’t want to get banned. Yes the price is below the RRP but so are most things I buy from my wholesaler.

I’m going to take a closer look at the appearance and probably buy one just to test it.

What happens if it is a fake?

Fake products have no place in the marketplace. All they do is make it harder on us reputable sellers.

I sell Kingston flash drives REAL Kingston flash drives and I warn my customers to stay away from too good to be true deals like the one youre attempting.

If you have a fake it will read on the computer as a 64GB, 32GB or whatever but when the actual size is exceeded (which is most likely around 2GB or 4GB) you lose all the data.

      Not cool.

Where are you buying it from? That would be one thing to look at and the other would be the price.

If you are paying around $15 you are purchasing a fake. Sure you will be able to find a buyer for it because they, like you, will believe they are getting a good deal.

Then they leave you negative feedback, you get banned from eBay (or whatever site you’re selling on) and you can’t get your money back from the original supplier.

I’m not trying to sell a fake. That’s why I came on here.

I don’t want to deal with the negative feedback. The price for these Kingston flash drives is pretty low. Maybe I should look at another dealer.

I’m expecting a shipment from China in the next couple of days. I’ll let you know if they have the real deal or not. Maybe I can pass along that info if it’s a good deal.

Remember all flash drives have the potential of being fakes.

While Kingston flash drives, especially the DT310 model you mentioned, are a hot commodity other brands are being corrupted and sold as fakes as well. Especially, Sony and SanDisk.

Trust your gut, would be my advice. Don’t get caught up in the fake world.

There are some items that people can sell as fakes and get away with, but these drives would only erase data and in some cases they have infected computers with a virus.

if youre expecting a real shipment from China, youll be waiting more than a few days. The only real Kingston flash drives come from Kingston.

The Chinese market is flooded with fake drives. All they do is distort the Kingston memory.

Do yourself a favor when you receive that shipment (if you do receive it at all) destroy them.

What makes you think they are fake? I looked up the seller. They seemed reputable, good feedback and all.
