I think you need to find a niche market

I would think items such as baby products, toys, home products, and electronics would be the best sellers all around.

It's best to import something you are passionate about as opposed to importing some nik nak just because it's profitable - it helps massively if it's an interest of yours.

I would do a few searches in google keyword selector tool and ebay pulse to find out what people are searching for and what's popular. If you're just a small business with limited funds I would start dropshipping to begin with, once you sell a few hundred products using dropshipping you will know what to wholesale next, then the next stage is cutting out the wholesaler and start importing it from China yourself.

If you want a short answer and just want to make some money now, DVDs, games, footwear and clothing are always winners.

Hello to everyone! Excuse me for my English! I'm from Russia. I came to this forum because I can't find any answers for my questions in russian ones. People in Russia are greedy and do not help each other. And I have a problem. Planning to start my own business but still don't know what to sell. I live in a small town of 100 thousands of people. We are in the North of Russia. I can't choose what it should be. People here earn not too much to buy designer-clothes for example. But there is a shopping mall in my town. It is a real competitor in clothing. I also think about online-shop of unusual gifts. Online would be much better, because renting a place for a shop (showroom) is extremely expensive in Russia. Maybe you can give me some advice of products, that can be popular in online-selling and not too expensive (TV's, Cell Phones...). Something Brand-new.
      Thank you

Apparel is great if you can find the right suppliers, especially from China or even Bangkok.
