Copying other descriptions is really NOT a good idea, the notion of it being flattery applies to fashion and personal image but has NO PLACE in a web store. By all means check out the competition, but Google thrives on Original content. If your product descriptions are the same as a site which ranks high this does not mean that having the same content will increase YOUR ranking, quite the opposite.

Product descriptions are often what drives people to your site (searching for a product rather than the shop).

Try it, Google one of your products and see where you rank, then check out the top three sites for that product, compare the descriptions to your own and see where you can make improvements.

Research keywords and use the top 2 or 3, Keep descriptions to about 200 to 300 words, who wants to spend half an hour reading about something before they buy it? Make sure your purchase button is clear and on the page without the need to scroll. Keeping things fairly simple is key, people shop online for convenience and speed (often in a lunch break at work). This is why you want your site site in the top ranking position, it has been proven that people don't often scroll through a search and will usually click through the first 2 or 3 listings.

These are some good tips. Many times when I visit different websites I see shallow descriptions of products. It can really improve the sales if effort is put into the description. I think sizes, colors and measurements are very important, If you are selling products, be sure to give all the facts and answer any question buyers may have.

People with questions don't become buyers.
