How to create a product barcode

I am starting a business and one of the things that I have run into is that I may need a bar code for some of my products. I have been in stores and seen bar codes all my life, but I dont really have any clue how to get one? Can someone help me with this? Do I even need a bar code for my products? If so, how can I create a bar code? Isnt that something that only giant multinational corporations can do?

Simple, straight forward answers to your first questions: Yes, you do need a barcode for your products, and no, creating bar codes are not something that only multinational corporations do, it is something that everyone does and that anyone can do. Dont sweat it! Barcodes arent that hard. Ill take you through the process.

First, Get a bar code number - You have to get a barcode for your product. Every product has to have it own bar code and no two products can have the same bar code, this avoids confusion. To make sure every product has a different number, there is an international organization that issues bar codes called GS1. Apply to GS1 and they will allocate a series of numbers for your product for a nominal fee (if you are serious about business and not just schlemiel with no business sense, the cost for a bar code is definitely worth it)

Second, Create an image for your bar code number Now that you have a unique bar code number for your product or products, you need to convert that number into an image, the little thing that you see with all the black and white bars when you scan things at the check out. You can do this either by using special bar code fonts, or, better yet, you can get software that specially turns that number into an image. The latter option is going to come out with a better bar code, but the former will still work if you are trying to save money.

Third, you have to print that image and incorporate it into the packaging for your product. Where are you going to put it on the products packaging? This is something that is not as hard as it sounds, just make sure that the bar code image is clearly visible on your packaging.

Finally, Test out your product This last step may seem like something that you want to skip over, but dont do that! If you want to make sure your product is properly bar coded, you have to try to run it through a variety of different scanners. You dont want your product to be that one in the check out line where it is not scanning!

No, it is not complicated. You just have to go to GS1’s website and go through their application process. Small business have to do this kind of thing all the time. It sounds intimidating but don’t let yourself be put off by it.

I’m going to provide you with GS1’s website, just in case you can’t find it:

GS1 is the official provider of bar code numbers | BarCodes & Identification | Products & Solutions | GS1 - The global language of business

I really thought barcode is quite necessary for any product nowadays, because people want to buy product that can be easily trackable. It makes them feel secure. Besides, it also helps sellers to manage their products. Actually, to generate a barcode is quite easy. There are many barcode generator in the internet. Here is one of them, called barcodelib.com and you can try some free demos here. Anyway, hope your business extend bigger and bigger.

Here is the easiest way to do it

I have found a German website that creates barcode for less than a $1 and they will send you actual codes and actual barcode image. I used them to post custom products on amazon.......worked like a charm. Usually sites that do that will charge a membership of 100's of bucks.

Just google internation-barcodes there is a package of 10 codes for 8 euros. It just took about 4 days for me to get them and you can pay with paypal as well
