How can I make the most of seasonality and end of line surplus stock?

      Hi,

I just started browsing this forum and after reading quite a number of threads I would like to buy end of line, returned goods, customer returns, etc., from wholesalers and other liquidation suppliers to resell on eBay. Does anyone have any tips for me to make the most out of this venture?

      Thank you!

      Hi SurplusBuyer,

      Welcome to Wholesale Forum

We recommend that you either register as a sole trader or a limited company in the UK. By registering as a sole trader, you get to keep all your profits and will only be taxed for your income. If however you run into legal trouble, you are personally liable.

With a limited company liability is limited to the companies assets and shareholders will not be responsible for any debts the company runs into. Any active company is liable to Corporation Tax. It must pay any Corporation Tax and submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC.

If you would like to learn more about the topic, then take a look at the following links:

With that out of the way, you can still approach suppliers in the meantime and tell them that youíre a market trader. By doing so, you not only give yourself the experience to get the hang of the process until you're officially registered, you also don't have to give them a company number. They wonít be bothered by it and will sell you their goods anyway.

There is quite some quid to be made by working the end of line, out of season stock angle since youíll find deals well below a pound that sells for at least six times that. It does take some time and patience, but you'll get it down.

The best thing you can do is to sell seasonal stock when demand is high, then before prices start dropping you get rid of your stock as quickly as possible, even if that means selling it at cost. When you have cleared up all your stock, you can start sourcing surplus, overstock items at discounted prices, for the next upcoming season, and stock up for when the demand gets high.

You need to try catching the wave of high demand, and bail out before it bites you

So with winter approaching you should be focused on buying summer apparel and related fashion accessories. The downside is that youíll have your money held up in stock for months at a time before you can make a pence, but itís definitely well worth the wait. On the other hand, the upside is that you can also purchase winter apparel when itís summer time. One more thing to consider, youíll have to remain updated with several suppliers at once so you know what goods they currently have in stock.

Here are a few leads for you to look at:

If you would like to save yourself some time and energy looking for more suppliers, then by all means sign up with eSources and Wholesale Deals. Both of them are the Internetís leading trade directories of verified manufacturers, wholesale suppliers (especially out of line/seasonal stock), distributors and drop ship suppliers.
