Think of it this way, have you ever purchased something that you didn't set out to buy before you found out about it?

In that instance someone created the demand, they found a way to instill a desire in you, which lead to your purchase of their product. You weren't looking for it, but somehow stumbled upon it, and bought it.

That's the art of selling If you wait for buyers to come to you, you are probably competing with a lot of other sellers doing the same passive selling. If however you find creative ways to actively seek the demand, you will make more sales.

You can create demand online as much as you can offline. Online it's called keyword research, social media involvement, press releases, special offers, customized newsletters, joint ventures, etc. There are ways to translate offline marketing practices to the online world, and that's what you should be doing too to attract more sales for the same effort/cost.

Chinavasion.com and Dealextreme.com are two Chinese drop shippers that come to mind for gadgets and electronics.

That's right. Consider the area where you want to sell the product if that is a busy area, you can depend on it. Next is the in demand product in that area. Then you will know what product to sell.
