      Are electric bikes popular today?

I own a bike shop, so I am constantly looking for products from wholesalers. I have noticed that some of these suppliers have started to offer electric bikes. I am just wondering if these are popular and if I just didnt know it. If they are, I might look into selling them.

Electric bikes look like regular bicycles and come with many of the same parts such as saddles, reflectors and tires. However, they are different in that they are powered by an electric motor that is started by paddling the bike. It works a lot like a scooter, without all the noise.

Electric bikes are definitely gaining popularity for a number of reasons.

      1. With the increasing awareness of sustainability, e-bikes get people where they need to go without harming the environment.
      2. An e-bike gets you where you need to go faster and without losing any of the maneuverability of a bicycle.
      3. Although e-bikes are motorized, you do not need a permit or license to operate one.
      4. The running costs, fuel consumption and insurance for e-bikes are low.
      5. In some states, using an e-bike qualifies you for a tax incentive.
      6. They are easy to use in hilly places, such as San Francisco.
      7. The newest generation may edge away from buying expensive cars and getting licenses to buying cheaper, easier to maintain e-bikes.

There is no question that e-bikes will only gain popularity and be a great investment.

There are a couple of steps you can take to help ensure successful sales of electric bikes.

      1. Buy brands or styles of electric bikes that your competition does not offer. This way, people might be more likely to buy from you.
      2. Have excellent customer service. This applies to displaying/advertising the bike, selling the bike, and promptly dealing with any issues that might occur after the bike has been sold.
      3. Be well-informed on every aspect of electric bikes including how they work, different brands and your competitors’ prices. Customers trust and buy from well-informed professionals in the industry.

How important is it that I buy brand name electric bikes over generic brands? I just don’t know if I have the capital to invest in expensive bikes right now.

When a lot of people buy electric bikes, their first impression is made by the appearance of the bike (color and style).

      ● This is especially true of first time buyers who don’t know much about electric bikes.
      ● Buying generic e-bikes works well in this situation.

However, money is tight for a lot of people right now and they will most definitely be considering the utility of an electric bike over the appearance.

      ● If they buy a bike that breaks down within two weeks of it being purchased, you will probably have to compensate them and you will lose their business.
      ● It is well worth the customer satisfaction to invest in quality bikes.

The use of electric bikes have increased due to because they are not too costly, no fuel consumption, & they can easily serviced.. also the brands always matter but as you say you won't be able to invest much at this time so could go with generic bikes which have attractive look..

      Electric bikes

I hope this is so late that you already have a thriving elect bike business.

Do it slowly. Don't import a container full first off. Get a few a month for a while to see how they go.

There are many electric bikes on the market, most of them are poor quality and unreliable. I imported them into Australia a few years ago. To ensure the quality I visited many factories in China and found an excellant supplier.

The laws in Australia restrict the power of the motor to 200watts which is not enough to make it a good hill climber. They are nice to ride but miss the important advantage of climbing the hills for you. There is now a new problem here about their legality so I'm out of business.

I think kin the US you are limited to 16 or 20mph depending on the State.

      A few important points:

      - You need brushless motors. Many have high speed motors with very light internal gears that will wear quickly. In a brushless motor there are only two bearings to wear out. You should t3ell the customer to replace these every two years unless the motor manufacturere can convince you they have used high grade bearings.

      - You need LiFe PO4 batteries. These are most reliable and the life time price is less than lead acid. You need to make sure the battery management system is adequate to protect the battery from excessive discharge and ensure proper charging. I have an excellant supplier for LiFePO4 batteries if you need them. Note there are Lithium Ion Batteries and one type of lithium Ion battery is this type often just called Lithium Iron. Most other types of Lithium Ion batteries are not suitable.

      - You absolutely need a good charger. A cheap charger will reduce the useful range by not charging the batteries fully and will damage the batteries so you get lots of warrantiy claims.

      - You need gears. Many elec bikes have a single speed drive but you really need some gears. A geared hub is easy for non-bike experts to use.

      - You need about 500 watts I think to make it a good bike.

My bikes had a range of 40km and most people thought that was plenty. I developed a conversion kit for mountain bikes and hybrid bikes that had a range of only about 25km and all my customers were happy with that. Some bought an extra charger to recharge the battery at work but no-one wanted an extra battery set to expend the range. On a mountain bike or hybrid its easier to pedal a few kilometres if you run out of battery.

      Good Luck

      Graham

Electric bike is popular in a way because it never consumes any fuel or gas since you just need to charge it. Have you also consider having a solar bike? I think it's kinda popular now in some countries.
