Amazon doesn't offer anywhere near the level of market research available with eBay.

      1. As you rightly identified, Amazon has a Top Sellers link for each of its categories.

      2. Another factor you can look at is how many people that have visited a specific product page have actually purchased the product. If the percentage is high, it means the product is regarded as a quality product, and as a result the purchase rate is high.

      3. A third option is available in the category and search results, where you can sort results by Best Sellers.

      4. Finally, Amazon offers sellers the option to receive a newsletter about the products that were searched for by buyers, but for which no corresponding product was listed on Amazon. Not necessarily an indication of a best seller, nevertheless good market research information, for example to help you identify a niche.

The rest will come with trial and error and just common sense (seasonal trends, mass media trends, social media trends, trends in your market segment, etc).

Nearly forgot to mention that Amazon groups a lot of this information into tabs, by category. For Amazon UK see: Amazon.co.uk Movers & Shakers: The biggest gainers in Amazon.co.uk sales rank over the past 24 hours.

Do remember the saying: "The harder they come, the harder they fall".
