      Are escrow services safe?

Is it safe for me to use an escrow service for my online business? How can I make sure the service I choose is not a fraud. Thanks for your help!

There are escrow services out there that are legitimate and very safe for you to use. However, there is no shortage of fraudulent escrow services online, so it’s always best to be very careful.

If you do decide to use an escrow services keep these in mind:

      - Use a well known and genuine one ( I will give some tips on spotting frauds a little later on)

      - Follow all of the instructions given to you by the escrow service

      - Keep secure- use anti-virus, do not use simple passwords etc

Some tips to spot a fraud escrow service:

      - Most fraud escrow services claim to be recommended by eBay or other sites, look directly at these sites for their recommendations

      - Check to see if there is a customer service number listed, if so call it. This could help make sure its legit. Look for a street address too.

      - Look up the company on a search engine, and go through the results. It may be listed as a scam, or it may be praised for being real.

      - See if the company is listed with the Better Business Bureau

      - If it uses person to person money transfer, its most likely a scam

      - If payments are asked to be addressed to a person rather than company, beware!!!

      - See how long the site has been running, if it’s a scam it might be just a few weeks old.

      - IF the fees charged seem too good to be true, its probably a fraud.

      - Spelling errors, inconsistent info etc indicate the side is a fake

      - Make sure the site is secure, and protected by SSL when signing in.

      - If the site only accepts hard to trace or recover forms of payment, use caution.

Wow, it seems like using an escrow service can be very risky.

Does eBay have a specific escrow service that it recommends? How exactly does it work?

The only escrow service that eBay recommends that buyers and sellers use is https://www.wholesaleforum.com/discuss/www.escrow.com

      This is how it works:

-Buyer and seller agree on using escrow.com
      -Buyer sends payment to escrow.com
      -Escrow.com tracks shipment
-Buyer receives items and decides whether or not to accept it
-If accepted, escrow.com sends payment to seller
-If not accepted, buyer returns item to seller. Buyer has to pay shipping and escrow fee and is returned the rest of the payment.

There are fees for using this service, so make sure to decide who will be paying the fees.

Also, escrow services are generally only used for large transactions (over $500)

Use your best judgment, and DO YOUR RESEARCH!

I’ll stick to my PayPal, all the horror stories of escrow services have scared me! But then again, I guess PayPal has risks too!

Try looking at Home - Escrow Fraud Prevention for a full list of scams, and legit escrow service sites. Good luck.

www.escrow.com is very safe and secure.

I do not recommend PayPal except for buying small value items from eBay. there are literally 10's of THOUSANDS of people that are scammed with PayPal. Look up PayPal sucks, and PayPal scam, PayPal fraud, etc.

Moneybookers also has a escrow service but I would stick to www.escrow.com
