You are right. But, you may find people stuffing their webpages with around 25 percent keywords.

This is keyword abuse. Not only it affects the readability of the content but also sometimes search engines ban such websites as spam. So, you should avoid it at any cost.

Although I don’t give much importance to keyword density, for the information of readers I’d like to say that the optimal keyword density for Google is 2-3% and for Yahoo is 5-7%.

Yes. Instead of focusing too much on keywords, you should focus on the content of your website. Good and relevant content automatically attracts traffic.

But, if you have a new website, how would you drive people to your website? To know that the content is good, there should be some visitors!

yeah, while developing a new website, you should leave no stone unturned. It is best to use important keywords in title, header, footer, and domain name. The keyword density of around 2 percent would work. Apart from optimizing your website with keywords, you should build links, submit press releases and register with search engines.

I think Google is the most widely used search engine. It gives more priority to back links, page design, website structure, navigation, and content than keyword density.

Why secondary keyword is not used as much as primary keyword?

Primary keywords are basically used for driving traffic to a website. Secondary keywords are used to differentiate your website from other similar websites. Like if you are an estate lawyer in Florida, your primary keyword could be estate lawyer while secondary keyword could be Florida estate lawyer.

If a secondary keyword is used as many times or a greater number of times than the primary keyword, then the focus of search engines would shift from the primary keyword to the secondary keyword. In order to avoid this, secondary keywords are generally used once or twice every 500 words, which means, a keyword density of less than 0.5 percent. If your primary keyword density is around three percent, you should have secondary keyword density of less than 1 percent and if your primary keyword density is 5 to 7 percent, you could keep the density of your secondary keyword at 1 percent. In no case, the density of secondary keyword should exceed 2%.

If you use secondary keywords several times in your content, you’ll be confusing the search engines. How will they identify primary and secondary keywords?
