Plan and Develop Your Marketing Strategy

If you believe you are not doing enough marketing, then odds are you are right.

Working on the perfect kind of marketing should feel like you are doing way too much. It's like dressing up too much - when you are about to go on a date. When you look at yourself in the mirror, it looks extravagant. But when you show up on your date - you look natural. Your marketing campaign must operate the same way.
Here are some hints and tips that you are not crazy enough about when it comes to your marketing:

Googling your name lists your competitor's site first
If you want customers to buy from you first, they have to find you first. Google is a passionate lover of fresh, new content, and they give praise to those who provide it and to whom others link to it as a resource. Google sees it this way, "If people believe this is worth their time, it must be a worthy read." Beside that, Google also indexes and discovers social media content such as Twitter feeds, forum posts, blog posts, etc.

Your business is hurting because of price
If your customers complain about price, they think why they should keep buying from you. What you provide should be more than just a product or service, it should be about communication, the experience, and a lifestyle when they make a buy. Create a list of the things you include in your offering. Once you are done, compare that list with your competitors. Then share what sets you apart from the rest with every customer.

      Your phones are paperweights
Does this remind you of the dating fiasco? Why doesn't he or she call? Maybe they are not clicking with you? In simple terms, they do not feel an emotional connection with you or you are not what they want when they see you. The way to solve this dilemma is to work with a niche demographic and psychologically profile each customer. Start by placing them in "categories" as you get to know them more. You can begin with "industry" but then have fun with it and remember those who want everything yesterday.

Your salespeople whine about the work
Everyone who is doing their part is doing the work of more than one person. This usually means your salespeople are doing something right that keeps customers talking to them. The way to go about it is to place your sales reps in front of the customer by working on an intriguing marketing campaign that teaches them how and why they should use your products.

You never had a marketing plan
A marketing plan does not have to be this haughty document. Actually, a one page plan can achieve more than a hundred page report. Since your marketing plan has a purpose, a goal, the customers you want to focus on, and what you want to provide to them. Lastly, how you will communicate with them, and how your product or service will be within arm's reach? Once you master those basics, your sales team will up the sales on all levels.

      You never update your website
If your website looks more like a reoccurring nightmare from the 1990's or is centered on visuals instead of addressing your customer's need. It's time for a change. If you do not even have a blog for your site or a simple newsletter, it's time for a change. Creating and changing your website is not that hard or that expensive as it once was. A blog serves to increase the amount of fresh content and acts as free publicity for you. Today's buyers want to know who they are giving their money to. A blog that incorporates product features and specifications as well as intriguing articles from a wide range of people will give your readers another reason to buy from you.

You do not have any referrals
If you never hear "…told me to contact you." Then it's pretty obvious what you are not doing. Customers cannot refer if they do not know you or why they should even do it in the first place. Most people want to be told what to do and using a referral process will help your sales people bump up the number of new customers. Have all your sales calls focus on helping your customer solve any problems they may have. Create a referral program that you can give to your customer or even better, make space on the web so customers can effortlessly send their referrals.

You have not released anything new
Customer's circumstances change and if you do not match your products or services, customers will believe you are not paying attention. Talk to customers about what is really important to them, what is wrong, what obstacles they are facing. Then create a value package that includes a mix of product and service selections.

      Conclusion
Overlooking marketing is fairly common when times are tough, and you have to make sure every customer is happy in these times. But it's that kind of strategy that puts your business at risk. So, do not fall prey to fear as you put on your marketing jacket. And keep in mind, if you think you are doing too much, you are doing it just right.

I think the most needed aspect of that list is the importance of recognizing and addressing the need for change. Whether it be updating your website or product line, everybody is going to assume that everybody else is updating their wares on a fairly regular basis. All you have to do to verify that is keep tabs on your competition. Try to pay attention to, among other things, how often they update their site and what type of upgrades they focus on.

The OP mentioned something in the first paragraph that I never knew. That Google discovers and indexes social media content such as forum posts. I suppose that could be an effective marketing strategy if the right keywords are used in the relevant forums. Now that I think about it, it's a pretty multi-tiered and detailed strategy. I've been in this business awhile too, so it just goes to show that there are still things you learn even if you don't think there are.
