Is Page Rank important for search engine optimization? Google PR importance in search

      Hi,

For the past couple of months I have been trying to SEO my content with highly searched for keywords, and I always hear about Google PageRank and the page’s relevance in search results. Does a PageRank of 1 would mean your site is on first page? Or does a PageRank of 0 mean that your content isn’t seen as valuable in the eye’s of Google?

Please help out a fellow Wholesale Forum member.

      Hi eMarketer,

      Welcome to Wholesale Forum

PageRank is just a link analysis algorithm by Google that measures a websites importance against its search results.

As we all now know, PageRank can be influenced, and it’s directly related to the quality and value of backlinks to your website.

If you don’t know what backlinks are, they’re just links from other sites, who also have a PR of their own that points to your site’s pages.

For example, if you have at least two dozen links from other websites pointing to you, and those websites have a PR4, then in theory your website should rank right along with them.

There is some math behind this idea when it comes to finding out how many links you need to reach a certain PR. Take a look at the following:

The amount of links are critical when it comes to SEO, and if those links contain your keywords, especially from PR4 pages, then this will definitely help your search position.

And, the more your PR is, the more Google will vouch for your website, meaning that you’ll be indexed more than others, and helps when you create more websites.

For example, let’s assume that you’ve finally got your website to reach a PR of 4, and then you decide to create another website. If you link back from your PR4 site to your newly created site, then odds are in your favor to have that site indexed within hours, as well as squeezing some more link juice out it for your previous site, which in turn, ranks your website higher up in Google than before.

Remember: there are a lot of elements when it comes to PR, but keep in mind that you shouldn’t focus so much on it in the first place, and only use it as an overall gauge on SEO in general.
Have a look at the following threads if you’d like to know more about linking:

      Hope this helps
