Welcome to Wholesale Forum
Many suppliers carefully audit new resellers before allowing them to open a trade account and make use of their wholesale services. Make sure that you demonstrate you are a good match for the supplier's requirements (research the supplier before you approach them to determine their commercial objectives, which you should be able to do easily from their website), and always remember that your supplier is in business to make money as efficiently as possible; it's a two way relationship. Also remember that suppliers receive many enquiries during busy periods, when in fact they favor setting up new accounts during slower periods. Consider approaching suppliers when business is slower, to maximize the amount of time the supplier can dedicate to setting you up as a new dealer.
Have a look at the following threads on Wholesale Forum to learn more about how to best approach suppliers:
- How To Approach Wholesalers - Wholesale Forum
- E-mailing a Potential Supplier - First Contact - Wholesale Forum US thread, but contains useful information.
The key to building new trade relationships is persistence. You need to contact as many new suppliers as possible, send multiple follow-ups if you do not get a response at first, remembering to send each follow-up at different times of the day. In this way you will increase your chances of the supplier actually reading your email. Many suppliers get a lot of requests to open trade accounts around this time of year, so they may have a lot of new resellers to review and evaluate. Make sure you stand out of the crowd by introducing yourself fully and by including your company details or trading details. Always use professional language, also make sure that your email "Subject line" or "Title" has a professional look to it. Instead of just using 'Trade Enquiry' or 'Wholesale Enquiry' try a subject line like "New trade account enquiry from NewCompany Ltd.".
To find thousands of verified trade suppliers instantly and forward your requests to open an account in bulk, we recommend you use the two largest UK online trade directories of verified wholesale suppliers eSources and Wholesale Deals. Both list thousands of verified wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers and drop shippers.
Hope this helps
