How should I go about making a link request?

I need to make a link request. Does anyone have any guidelines or suggestions that I should follow? Thank you.

There are some very helpful guidelines you should follow when making a link request. By using these your chances of getting a link greatly increase, especially if you are looking for an authority link.

      Get Contacts-

Do your research; be educated on the content and how your link will fit in.

Find out who is running the site, and reach out to them through social media.

Look for opportunities to agree, chat with, retweet etc.

Once you get a contact, or make friendly conversation getting a link is much easier to do.

Think in terms of the site-

When you are looking to make a request, think of it from the prospective of site you are requesting. The most logical thought would be “what’s in it for me”.

Think of how your link would benefit this site, and pitch it to them using these benefits. Try using these:

      - Resources- would your link be valuable to site visitors
      - Association
      - Recognition
      - Will your link bring more traffic etc

Once I establish the contacts, how should I present my pitch to my link target?

Many of these sites see tons of link requests a day, so make yourself stand out.

      Pay attention-

      - Use names, do not be monotonous , use catchy phrases

      Show your interest-

      - Tell them what’s in it for them

      - Why would you benefit them

      - Compliment them! Say what they are doing that you like.

Show how much you want it-

      - Provide plenty of contact information, with your direct email address

Give t hem what they need-

      - Provide them with the link code, so they do not have to work for it. It’s easier and cutes out time

There are some websites online that actually have Link Request Templates, you can just pretty much fill in the blank with your information and send it on over.

True, the only problem with these are that they are a little bit impersonal. It’s just like everyone else’s pitch and might not get you very far. But they are good to use as reference!

Also, it may be hard to get links from authority sites by directly asking for them. You first need to prove your asset to them, and once trust is gained it will be easier to get a link from an authority site.

If you do your research you will be able to come up with different tactics to get links. One way might work for one site, but for another be prepared to completely change your approach and angle. Use your best judgment and you will get used to making link requests.

And give as much contact info as possible! The more ways to be contacted the better!
