Most people think that once you advertise on Google, you will start getting sales to your website instantly. However, the key is to write effective Google adwords copy; otherwise you may get traffic but with a negligible conversion rate.

The keyword is the most important thing in Google Adwords. Including the right keywords in your ad will ensure that you get relevant traffic that gets converted into sales.

I have found that many people end up wasting money on Google Adwords as they do not know how to write good Google Adwords copy.

Here are some tips for writing Google ads:

      1. Your advertisement should convey your Unique Selling Point (USP). Let your potential customers know how you differ from your competitors.

      2. You should include the relevant keywords in your advertisement; otherwise your potential customers will not be able to reach your ad.

      3. You should choose your landing page carefully. Do not link all your ads only with the home page. If the keywords are more appropriate for the sales page, choose that as your landing page.

      4. Use the “Geo Target” feature. This will allow your ad to feature only in specific geographical regions. For example, if you sell your products only in the US, you could choose to show your ads only in the US. This will help you to reduce unnecessary impressions and clicks and thus improve your conversion rate and return on investment.

      5. Last but not least you should test your ads. The tests will reveal which keyword queries show your ad, the conversion rate of your ad, and the cost per conversion.

Hill, Thanks for providing useful information. Here, I would like to add one more point - you could improve the performance of a Google adwords campaign by scheduling your ads.

Can you please explain this in detail? How does scheduling affect the conversion rate of ads?

Google allows you to schedule your ads. You can choose to show your ads 24 x 7, specific hours of the day, or specific days of the week.

Here’s what I’m talking about: Suppose you have a home delivery fast food chain that offers a discount on food and beverages on weekdays. It might help you to show your discount ads only on weekdays. People who want to use these discounts would buy food on weekdays and therefore your conversion would increase if you show your ad only from Monday to Friday.

You can also change the bids according to the time of the day. For example, if your conversion rate is high between 10 AM and 11 AM, you can bid higher during this period to get more clicks. Similarly, if your conversion rate is low between 2 AM and 5 AM, you can bid lower during that period. By adjusting the bids, you can improve your conversion rate while keeping the cost of your advertising the same.

That’s an excellent explanation. I would suggest that you check the hours of the day when your ad draws maximum traffic in order to decide your Google ad schedule. You should use Google Analytics for this purpose.

To schedule your ads, you should first login into your Google Adwords account. Select the ad that you want to schedule. Go to settings. In settings you will find an advanced setting section with ad scheduling. Click on edit. Schedule your ad according to your requirements. Once you edit the settings, save them.

If you want to reduce the cost of conversion, you should improve your Google Adwords quality score. Ads with a good quality score are placed higher and their cost per click is lower.
