In order to make money online through social media tools such as facebook, you're going to need to wade through a lot of scams. Just like any work-from-home business, it takes serious dedication and a keen eye to spot legitimate opportunities. That said, here are a few ways that you can make money online from facebook:
1) Use facebook applications to help you earn money. If you have some old junk lying around your house, or if you are an artist, musician, clothes designer or whatever, then there is an application for you. CafePress, for example, is a place where clothing designers and artists can go to sell their products. You can download the CafePress application to your facebook profile and sell whatever you have on your store on your profile.
2) Try using ebay to auction off your goods on facebook. You can use the ebay facebook application to highlight and market the goods you're selling on facebook.
3) For stuff you want to sell right away, use GarageSale, an application which allows you to post items and sell them to your friends.
Try using any of these social media tools and you're sure to make at least a little money.
If you were good in creating Facebook apps yourself, I heard that you could make money selling ads on Facebook, especially if your ads were so popular as Farmville, for instance. I just wonder how it works.
I was thinking more specifically something that wouldn't take me selling or making something. Is there a facebook application for just making money off facebook?
Cleo2525, what you are suggesting would be something akin to a scam program. Myriad scams exist that say you can make money from doing nothing at all, but just like making gold from iron, it can't be done. There are applications out there that give you commission on things they sell which you advertise, though. Lemonade, for example, is one of a couple of social media tools where you can choose items from different sites, add the Lemonade widget to your profile, and then make a commission off of it. Another application is MusicBlaster, a program where you earn 5% commission when small-time music acts sell their songs that you posted on your profile. Don't expect $150 an hour from these, though, as they involve no real work from you outside of choosing an item or song.
Most times in order to make money you are either working for someone or working for yourself. If you are not advertising for someone else of some sort or yourself (or your products) I honestly do not see how this would be possible.

Yuwie and People Strings need to attract users, which is why they will pay you to use their site.
Facebook on the other hand has 150,000,000 users, and can hardly keep up most probably.
Nah, you can totally make money online from facebook or any other website out there. It's easy. Social media consultants make a bundle just telling people how sites like facebook work. If you want to make money through online social media, being a social media consultant is the way to go.
