      Facebook Vs Twitter

I have been using Twitter for promoting my business. But, since the past few months, Ive been observing that many Twitter users are also using Facebook to interact with their customers. What is the basic difference between Facebook and Twitter and should I use Facebook for advertising my business? Is Facebook more effective than Twitter for advertising a business? Thanks.

Both Twitter and Facebook are popular social networking websites. It’s really very difficult to point out which one is better. Both have their pros and cons.

Here are some of the main advantages and disadvantages of Twitter and Facebook.

      Twitter:

      Advantages

      1. It’s easy to use.
      2. It’s cost effective.
      3. You can reach a large number of people with Twitter. You’re not just limited to your family and friends.
      4. Anybody can follow you unless blocked.

      Disadvantages

      1. The length of message is limited to 140 characters.
      2. You could send reply only to the sender, so mass-interaction is missing in Twitter. You could say that there’s only one-to-one interactions or one-to-many (uni-directional) interactions on Twitter.
      3. It does not have an advertising platform.
      4. Spamming is common on Twitter.

      Facebook

      Advantages

      1. Facebook has a huge user base.
      2. It has many applications like messaging and picture sharing, which makes it a versatile networking platform.
      3. If you post something on Facebook, it allows your friends to discuss on it.
      4. You could limit your advertising campaign to a certain geographical region.

      Disadvantages:

      1. If you want to reap benefits from Facebook, you have to invest considerable time.
      2. If you use various applications available on Facebook, it may add to the cost of advertising.
      3. Unlike Twitter, you can’t expect immediate response on Facebook.

In my opinion, Facebook is basically meant for catching up with your family and friends. It is also a great platform to make new friends. However, the idea of promoting business on this website is new.

Twitter on the other hand is meant to reach a large audience. It’s not meant for just saying “hello” to your friends or asking your colleagues what they’re doing in forthcoming weekend. It is more appropriate for spreading a social message, advertising a brand, promoting a product, notifying customers about clearance sales, and releasing the schedule of events.

Im addicted to Twitter. Though I use Facebook too but its more for checking what my friends are doing and whats happening in their lives. I log into my Facebook account at least twice a day but I dont spend more than 10 minutes on it. However, the story is entirely different when it comes to Twitter. I spend a lot more time on Twitter updating my status and reading others tweets and re-tweeting what I liked.

I think if you are thinking of using these social-networking websites for advertising your business, then you can’t compare the two. I’d suggest that you should enjoy the best of both the worlds and use both Twitter and Facebook. Once you start advertising through both the platforms, you can check their performance and accordingly devote more time, money and efforts to the medium that is better.

I don’t agree with you. Facebook is the most popular social networking website and many big companies are using it to advertise their business. You can’t ignore the 400 million Facebook users.

Creating a Facebook business page has helped me network with my prospects. And my fan list is growing consistently. The more the number of your fans, the greater would be the number of people who would be interested in joining your fan list. This is because when people sign up as a fan on your business page, their friends can see that they have become your fans. This entices their friends to visit your business page and in turn, increases the probability of their becoming your fans.

See how many people you can reach free of cost through your Facebook business page!!

Hey, I agree that you can’t ignore Facebook as its popularity is growing. But, Twitter is also a good advertising medium.

I prefer Facebook to Twitter for advertising. Facebook has several applications like discussion board, polls, videos, and music that allow me and all my fans to interact with each other and share information.

Also, I have integrated my blog and Facebook business page. This allows my fans to check what I’m posting on my blog and comment on it.

Social media is a big theme these days. It is very powerful. So, many people instead of just confining themselves to the comforts of their zones are trying different social networking websites to reach masses.

You must have seen many companies asking people to join their Facebook fan pages as well as follow them on Twitter. Doing so helps them avail of the advantages of both the networking websites. When companies post anything on their fan page, the updates are automatically sent to their Twitter followers. So, their followers can immediately check what’s happening on the fan page.

I think using both helps immensely. If you want to spread a short message, you could use Twitter but if you want people to discuss or debate on an issue or you want to share photos, videos and information about your products and services, you could use Facebook.

The number of people using Facebook is very high. It has approximately 64 million active users. So, if you have a Facebook business page, your advertising campaign would be more effective. However, I emphasize that the importance of using Twitter along with Facebook can’t be undermined.

I use both Twitter as well as Facebook. But I prefer Twitter. It is much easier to control noise on Twitter. You can have a group of people whom you can follow and you can check what they are tweeting. It’s not like Facebook where you can see even your friend’s views and comments, which create much noise and thus leads to wastage of time.
