Newbie to Apparel Business - Needs Info on Invoice or Certificate of Authenticity?

      Hello Everybody,

I have recently started taking interest in the apparel business, so a newbie. Please forgive my stupidity.

I have a serious question, which has been haunting me.

      1. When I contacted dropshippers and wholesalers in Italy and Spain, they said "Invoice" given by them when I order any branded products, should suffice as a proof of original/genuine product.

      2. When I read on some distributor/wholesaler looking for surplus stocks, they ask for "certificate of authenticity". Without this certificate they will not buy those products.

Now please someone help me in clarifying below 2 questions:

      1. For a reseller, the invoice given by wholesaler can be considered as proof of origin/genuine?
      2. What is "certificate of authenticity" and normally where and how we can get it?

Thanks a lot for your advice

      HI Ratnakar,

What you need is called a paper trail, it's a document that shows the route that the stock you are buying has followed before arriving to your supplier. It will indicate every single seller and buyer of the stock and certifies that the stock has been sold through a brand's authorized supply chain. Please note that at times suppliers do not wish to release this information to you, however they may do so between your attorney and theirs, the attorneys will then take care of verifying the stock's trail.

      Hope this helps
