Advice on enforcing copyright of website (business materials)

While reviewing my search engine results I noticed that my website content is appearing on a different companyís website.

What can I do to protect the copyright of my business materials?

I know that brochures, products and things like this can be protected. Canít I enforce my copyright and make them remove the information?

Looking for some advice to help me figure out what my next step should be.

There are ways to enforce copyright over intellectual product and if someone is using your content then you certainly should.

First, you should inform the people using your information that they should remove it as that infringes on your copyright. If they do not do so, you may need to get your attorney involved.

Normally people pull it off but if you run into a road block it's good to have legal counsel.

You should double check that your website contains your copyright. It normally looks like the following: © 2010 Business/Company name All rights reserved.

The copyright needs to be updated each year. You have to protect yourself otherwise, you will have no recourse.

Not only could they steal your work but they can also negatively affect the search engine rankings. Content that is duplicated across the internet is penalized by Google.

Yes I have the copyright notice on the site. I even have it listed in my website terms.

It upsets me that someone can just swipe my content and my images.

People seem to believe that the Internet is simply a database of free content, images and video. Even logos are ripped off. It doesn't take long to do or take a lot of money either.

Send them a warning that they are offending not only your website policy but the copyright rules too.

I am letting my friend who is a lawyer, review the email now. Hopefully the warning will get them to take off the content.

The last thing I want is to get wiped off the search engine radar because someone else did something wrong.

Everyone trading online needs to know about trademarks, design patents and copyright.

Businesses have to protect their intellectual property and that means more than just brochures and logos. Website content is intellectual property as well.

Make sure that you have not infringed on anyone else's copyright. People using a copywriter or SEO guru for their site should get rights to that work and ensure it is not duplicated elsewhere on another site.

Before I got too upset over copyright I contacted my copy writer to make sure I didn't get the raw end of a deal.

I think this is just a case of someone else being lazy and thinking I wouldn't notice or wouldn't do anything about it.

Copyright is only good if it is enforced. You have to stay on top of who is using your intellectual property.

      ‚ÄĘ Work for hire
      ‚ÄĘ joint work
      ‚ÄĘ contracts transferring copyright

These are three ways you can make sure the property is yours to claim. All three can be used with a content writer or graphic designer.

People forget that images are just as much intellectual property as words. It's not just thought; it's the expressed thought presented in a tangible form.

Good to hear that you have sent a warning. Hope the issue is resolved without you having to spend money or too much more time on the issue.
