My new word for today? Dropshipping!

      Hi everyone,

I must admit to never having heard of the phrase 'dropshipping' before today but am happy to have finally found something which might get me started in business. I currently work in the charitable sector and think that this is an untapped market e.g. a significant customer base and a potential USP. I want to run a business with a clear social benefit (initially via a proper % profit donation) and move on to develop a socially concious brand. However, i was about 5 minutes away from buying a pre made, £50 a year blah blah website until i found this forum and am clearly going to stop, take a breath and get reading before i do anything!

Any advice and help i get from here will be very much appreciated!

      Cheers,
      iamdes

      Hi Iamdes,

      Welcome to Wholesale Forum

The web is democratic by nature, your decision to get involved in a business that produces social benefits is fantastic, and something everyone should consider.

You said you work in the charitable sector, which is an untapped market, and a USP. It is not clear however whether you are planning to sell to people involved in the charitable sector, or whether you intend to leverage a charitable cause to generate interest in your resale products.

      Thanks for the welcome!

Initially i see charitable / third sector as a customer base. I know that we often recommend companies to each other if they offer a good price and even more so if they themselves make clear they have a social benefit. As an example, we only buy catering off a social enterprise in Barnet which does good food BUT also employs and trains people with learning disabilities. It is basically recycling our charitable funds to another for a double benefit!

At a later stage i can see an opportunity to compete for the money which private companies spend on everyday products by providing them the chance to increase their 'social spend' or CSR without a significant realtime increase. The key to this, however, is me being able to prove that their money is actually being spent on a good cause and not to line my pockets while i claim to be helping others. I think this would involve my future company directly running charitable projects or via employment opportunities.

A long way to go i think
      cheers,
      iamdes
