      Hi Zainbintariq,

      Welcome to Wholesale Forum

Did you know that in 2010 president Asif Ali Zardari had announced that Pakistan was planning to ban the importation of used computers to stop serious social, health and environmental implications caused by e-waste dumping? Computer importers, dealers, and IT educational institutes have rejected the proposed ban on the importation of used computers. This decision was made to prevent depriving IT institutes and students from acquiring cheap used IT equipment. However, you can expect multinational IT companies, who to encourage consumption of new IT equipment supported the ban on importation of used computers, to try again to ban the importation of e-waste into Pakistan or lobby for increased regulations to control e-waste recycling in Pakistan. Environmental institutions are another group actively trying to reduce the importation of e-waste into Pakistan.

For the time it is possible to import all kinds of used computers into Pakistan. However, you should consider the serious environmental hazards of importing more e-waste into your country, and the risks that you will incur from a sudden change in regulations. Consider instead importing cheaper IT equipment like PC tablets, in order to offer the Pakistani people an affordable alternative, one that is mobile and works wireless, while at the same time reduce the importation of e-waste into Pakistan.

To import any IT products into Pakistan you need to provide Pakistani customs with the following documents:
      • Letter of Credit (L/C)
      • Contract
      • Commercial Invoice
      • Airway Bill
      • Packing List
      • National Tax Number of Pakistani importing entity
      • Catalog/brochure with complete details of the software
      • Certificate of Authorization to Use from software developer
The current customs duty rate on computers is 0%, have a look at the following information from the Pakistan Customs Tariff (.pdf file):

      HS-Code Description Customs Duty %
8471.3010 - - - Laptop computers, notebooks whether or not incorporating multi media kit 0
      8471.3020 - - - Personal computers 0
      8471.3090 - - - Other 0
      -Other automatic data processing machines

We suggest contacting Pakistani Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to find out more about importing used computers into Pakistan. Have a look at the following link for more information:Hope this helps
