From what I know you need to make sure that the composition and ingredients of the soap you are importing complies with EU cosmetics standards.

Cosmetics standards? I’m importing soap though, what does that have to do with cosmetics?

      Hi Dirtyclean,

      Welcome to Wholesale Forum

Peshawarn00b is right, soap is categorized as a cosmetic by the EU cosmetic directive, therefore any EU manufacturer of cosmetics has full responsibility to produce it according to EU legislation.

If instead the cosmetic goods have been imported from outside the EU, then the EU importer / distributor is responsible for having the goods tested and approved for resale in Europe.

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) can be used to find test houses across the UK. A quick search for cosmetics shows that these can be tested in the following UK test houses:

      Yes it does thanks!

Is there also a way to make sure my soap complies with EU cosmetics standards before importing it?

You should contact your supplier and ask them if you can order samples. You can have those samples shipped directly to your UK test house of choice. In this way you will have the results before ordering from your supplier in bulk.

You would first need contact your test house and inform them that the samples will be shipped directly from your supplier.

    7. Thank you for this post:
