Importing Ink Pads from the US - Import Duty and VAT on Ink Stamp Pads

Is anyone here familiar with importing ink pads from the US? If you could tell me what kind of duty and VAT I will have to pay? Thanks

I import a lot of goods into the UK from the US and the primary tool I use to calculate duty and VAT charges is www.dutycalculator.com. It is simple to use:

      ● Type the name of the product you are importing.

      ● Type the names of the countries from which you are importing and to which you are importing.

      ● Type the cost of shipping and insurance.

The duty calculator will then give you an estimate of your duty and VAT charges. For example, I did a basic calculation of ink stamp pads being imported from the US to the UK. Depending on what your shipping costs are, the duty rate will be between 0 and 6.3 %. The VAT rate will be 20%.

If you are importing goods to the UK from a country outside the EU, you only have to pay VAT above a certain value. The total of your goods must have been under this value mark. If you still want to make sure, you can apply for an EORI number that will be allocated to your business.

You can find the form on the HMRC website.

The EORI number allows customs to call you if there are any issues with the goods you are importing at customs. Make sure the inbound courier you are using also has your EORI number so that they know if your goods are being held at customs, as well.
