Importing Hard disk into UK - VAT and Duty Rate on Import of Hard Drives

Hello, Ill likely be importing hard disk drives, HDDs, into the UK in the near future. Does anyone know if there are any special circumstances surrounding HDDs and duty fees/VAT fees?

None that I am aware of. As far as I know there will likely be a 10% duty and a 20% VAT on computer accessories.

It apparently is not in one of the duty free categories for electronic devices such as laptops, mobile phones, and gaming consoles, unfortunately. Depending on your order size it may meet one of the minimum thresholds for duty fees. Remember duty fees and VAT fees are mutually exclusive.

Duty fees are not charged if the total value of the goods does not exceed 135, not including shipping charges or insurance.

Neither duty nor VAT is charged if the value of the goods does not exceed 18.

There’s a really good duty and VAT calculator here, Calculate your import duty in a few quick steps for free | The DutyCalculator .

The official European Community TARIC consultation site is here TARIC Consultation.

I’m pretty sure it is covered in Section XVI.
