You can import electronic or hybrid bikes to the UK under several conditions.

      1. Make sure the e-bikes have been CE approved. They will not pass customs otherwise.

      2. Also get a Certificate of Conformity for each e-bike, which proves it conforms to UK standards and regulations.

      3. If the VAT is paid, then you will not have to pay a high duty on importing the e-bikes.

      4. If the VAT is not paid, consult a customs broker to calculate how much the duty, VAT and freight shipping will cost.

      5. Go to the HM Revenue and Customs website: HM Revenue & Customs.

      a. Here you will find a list of pertinent questions and answers about importing products into the UK.
      b. Find your commodity code and register for VAT.

      6. Buy the book Revenue and Customs Integrated Tariff of the United Kingdom. It is the only reference guide for your specific product and its code. Or you can use a cheaper option at http://www.dutycalculator.com (charges £2.99 for each commodity code query).

It might not even be worth it to go through all the rules and regulations of importing if e-bikes aren’t going to sell well in the UK. Anyone know anything about this?

E-bikes are becoming more and more popular around the world. The UK is just one of the countries that is embracing this technology for a number of reasons.

      ● E-bikes do not harm the environment with unhealthy carbon emissions.
      ● E-bikes are much cheaper to run and take care of.
      ● E-bikes get you where you need to go faster than a regular bike without losing any maneuverability.
      ● You do not need to pay for a car, registration, petrol or maintenance with an e-bike.

There are a few challenges facing the growth of the e-bike market:

      ● E-bikes are still a relatively new technology, so there are often problems with them, usually having to do with the battery.
      ● Biking regulations are still new and not well ironed out. E-bikes can be dangerous motor vehicles in traffic if there are no markings to safeguard riders.
      ● The shortage of e-bike suppliers and repair shops not only makes e-bikes hard to buy, but also scares consumers off from buying because they fear they may not be able to fix an e-bike quicly in case of an emergency.
      ● Safety regulations regarding how old you have to be to use an e-bike and what kind of protective gear should be worn are still being defined.

Nowadays, as the renewable energy is becoming more popular, E-bikes are trendy. There are many manufactures and companies exporting E-bikes.

However, one question is the problem of transportation. It may be a little difficult and cost would be a little high.

Yes, many manufacturers. However, the quality assurance and repair is still a problem.

I was working for a company that traded in motorcycles, but sometimes I also received some inquiries regarding e-bikes. Now the e-bikes are more expensive than motorcycles, that's funny.
