Importing boxers in the UK - Are VAT and duty rates the same as for apparel

Can someone please tell me the VAT and duty for importing boxer shorts into the UK? Is it different to other apparel?

You can check out the Duty Calculator to get specifics on what your order should cost you. Specifically, they have a duty rate estimator, sort of a simulation, [HERE]. It’ll cost you a subscription to get more than 5 lookups or 5 calculations, but it should get you where you’re going. In general, the import duty for boxer shorts into the UK is 12%, and the VAT is 20%.

For example, your order might look something like this--

      ● Product value: 1070.91
      Shipping costs: 94.92
      Insurance costs: 0.68
      Total import value: 1166.51
      Import duty @ 12%: 139.98
      Import VAT @ 20%: 261.30
Total import duty & VAT: 401.28

This 12%, 20% spread is, far as I can tell, the same as for most articles of clothing of knitted cotton, woven cotton, knitted man made fibres, and woven man made fibres. You get into real differences when you start into things like leather, furskin, and extruded materials (like PVC and latex). So long as the underwear you plan on importing isn’t the kinky kind, you should be solid assuming the 12% .
