Global Sources Verification Helps You Verify Your Supply Source

The Global Sources verification process is aimed at providing procurement departments of manufacturers, importers, and trading companies with information regarding reliable verified suppliers for their needs. Global Sources is a reputable sourcing website that specializes in supplier verification and in organizing many large trade shows in Asia. It is also engaged in many print publications that provide a lot of sourcing information. Dealing with Global Sources is beneficial to both suppliers and buyers. Once suppliers register with the website, Global Sources verifies that they are legitimate. This stamp of approval benefits the suppliers. Buyers, on the other hand, can be satisfied that if Global Sources has verified a supplier, they need not worry about that company’s authenticity.

      Different Functions Of Global Sources

Global Sources verification involves physical checking to find out whether a supplier is authentic and a legally registered business organization. Global sources also verify whether the listed contact person actually represents the registered company. The representatives of Global Sources make regular visits to the company to ensure that they are export ready and have real offices and products. The information provided by the company regarding its entity is also verified for validity and accuracy. If a supplier does not meet the necessary standards of the community, he is rejected. They also work closely with intellectual-property rights holders to remove any infringing products listed. However, product inspection is not carried out by them.

Different verified suppliers are categorized differently based on Global Sources verification process. One to six star rankings are allotted by Global Sources to the suppliers. Based on supplier verification and these rankings, detailed information regarding various aspects is set forth on their website to enable procurement agencies to be aware of the parameters used and of areas checked in the supplier verification process. By doing so, it becomes easier to choose verified suppliers.

Global Sources provides a one-stop sourcing platform for specialized sourcing requirements. Industry-specific categories have been created with pointers to current industry trends and hot new products. They have been in existence for more than 30 years, and Global Sources verification is considered to be reliable by most agencies who have dealt with them.

      Drawbacks

They do not verify, however, whether a supplier is capable of meeting bulk quantity requirements within the deadlines set by the clients. Moreover, their supplier verification process does not include checking for quality. It has also been found that sometimes even verified suppliers fail to honor their delivery commitments, are unable to supply the full volume of the order, and lag miserably in quality requirements. Basically, it is all a matter of the star categories because the higher the star category ranking, the more stringent the Global Sources verification process is. For example, supplier capability is not checked for a three-star category and, as such, it is possible that the supplier might not be able to supply the volume that he might claim to be capable of doing.

      Cost Factor

For a supplier to get a higher star rating, the global sources verification process is more elaborate and consequently more expensive. The supplier is charged more and this extra cost is passed on to the buyer. However, not all verified suppliers pass on the cost, especially the big businesses, since this amount might be just a negligible fraction of their total sales and they realize that it is worth paying something extra for establishing reliability and credibility of their products. This process of supplier verification has to be repeated every year.

      Quality Assurance

Global sources verification does not inspect products for their quality. They advise interested customers to contact Bureau Veritas, which does product inspection and charges the customer for the same.

This is cool stuff. I’ve been trying to find good supplier sources for some time now. I think this should be of great help.

There must also be some system of verifying the products and delivery commitments. That will make this service even more useful.

In a large market, such certifications act like some sort of lamp posts; that’s all. You still need to do the complete research as regards the products they stock, fair pricing, dropshipping arrangements as well as payment methods.

But yes, I think this sort of information definitely helps a first timer get started.

As a supplier, it’s pretty expensive to get ranked. So to my mind, it is unfair. I may be just as good as the next guy but since I don’t have the spare cash for a certification, they get some kind of edge over me in the market place.

Plus where do you think these certified guys recover their costs – they pass them onto the customer.

Without any kind of product quality rating, I think this service will always stay limited. As a buyer, I need to first concern myself with the product of what I am sourcing and thereafter, stuff like reliability and ability to meet commitment which too, they dont tell you about.

Global sources verification at the very least prevents any serious fraud. From among the millions of companies that you will encounter on the web, you get a good list of the verified ones. Then its up to you to do further checks as regards quality and other stuff. They cant do everything. Even if they did, I doubt either buyer or seller would be willing to pay for the service.

Actually stuff like quality and reliability are so subjective anyway. How are you supposed to put a ranking or absolute number on it? Good quality export surplus at 5 dollars to me is a great buy; but not so for someone who is looking at buying 500 dollars worth of clothing maybe.

Btw, one great thing is the credit rating and other financial information that they are offering on suppliers. That will really make a big difference. For those that need product inspection or other capability information, you can pay extra to companies like Bureau Veritas and get it done.

But I’m assuming here that everybody wants a free lunch, right?

I’ve found their service very useful especially when dealing with new sellers who say they are representing so and so company. When you are two continents apart, global sources verification is to my mind the best way to check out who you are dealing with.

As for supplier ranking, you need to factor in that it costs money so everybody who is not on top, may just not have the cash to be sitting there; it has nothing to do with capability.

I think their search – they call it a vertical search engine, is also terrific. I get all the information that I need at a click.

Also check out their events section which you can use to meet suppliers from all over the world. I think it’s a great way to get started in your chosen line of work.
