Exporting from China to Overseas - Do I need a shipping agent?

      Hello,

I live in the USA and importing product from China into different countries around the world. My question is, what should I do to have safe delivery to these countries? Should I contact a shipping agent?

Do I need to contact a shipping agent in each country or he can work globally? I am confused. Please help me understand the best process.

      Hi bizman,

You seem to be mixing up the terms exporting and importing, so people may not make sense of your question. I am guessing to some extent, so you may need to give more information.

If you live in the USA and do not own the business in China, you are an importer, not an exporter. The supplier in China is the exporter.

It sounds as though you may be planning to use a dropship supplier in China. If so you need to know the problems associated with that. Just let me know and I will post them on the forum for you.

According to my experience, the importer always finds the expensive shipping agent, I don't why. You'd better get help from your supplier, they know much more about the local situation, of course you should trust him or her firstly. OK, you can have a try by a small order, you will know how is the exporter. Then the relationship would be built well.

A good shipping agent will help you save time and deliver goods more smoothly for you, I think you can find one.

      Hi,

Firstly you should ensure your goods meet the import rules of your import country, such as CE (Europe) and ASTM (USA).

You can then ask the China export forwarding agent to ship the goods. Some of them can offer a very wide range of shipping options.

Finally, you just need to call your customers to pick up the shipment and complete customs clearance before the ship arrival time.

It is better find a shipping agent in China. They can help you a lot. Some agent can deal with shipping all over the world. My clients have their own shipping agent.

Or your supplier can find a shipping company in China for you, because the freight in China will be very competitive.

The process will be like this:

      1. You ask the supplier for CFR quotation (good cost and freight) or CIF quotation, you offer him some information about the goods, such as total cubage, destination port, he will collect freight quotation from the shipping company in China;

      2. You pre-paid the freight to the supplier, he will arrange the shipping for you and pay the freight to the shipping company.

      3. The goods will be shipped to the destination port you appoint.

      Hope it's helpful for you.

      Thanks!

Using a freight forwarder is the best choice. Not only for the favorable price, but also because they offer new packaging. They can deliver your products to any country in the world.

      Hi Bizman21,

It depends on you. Some shipping agent can help you to do something. You also can ask your supplier to help you export, and quote CIF price. It's also the simple way. To some extent, I think you can trust your old supplier. They can understand you better, and make sense of your idea. Because you have cooperated many times. In your post, I can see your requirements will vary in the future.
